Check Out Addison Niday’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Addison Niday.

Hi Addison, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a traditional sign painter and artist based here in Flagler Beach, where I’ve been bringing stories and brands to life through handmade signs. My work focuses on creating authentic, hand-painted antique signs that capture a timeless aesthetic. I’m passionate about preserving the art of traditional craftsmanship while adding a modern twist that resonates with the sign writing community. What began as a small hobby I would make time for on weekends has turned into a full time career of getting to do what I love.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like any creative journey, my road hasn’t always been smooth, but every bump has shaped who I am today. When I started Saved Signs in Flagler, I faced the challenge of standing out in a world dominated by digital design and mass production. Early on, finding clients who valued my time, intensive craft of hand-painted work was tough as a lot of people didn’t understand why painted signs cost more than printed ones. I also hit a learning curve mastering techniques like gold leaf application, which took years of trial and error to perfect.
Balancing creativity with running a small business was another hurdle. Long nights sketching designs, managing finances, and marketing myself while staying true to my artistic vision tested my resilience. Flaglers tight-knit community, though, was a lifeline, local business owners and artists rallied around me, offering support and collaboration. Those struggles taught me patience, adaptability, and the importance of community. Now, when I see my signs lighting up a clients office or home, I’m reminded that the rough patches were worth it for the chance to create something lasting.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a vintage sign painter and restorer here in Florida, specializing in handcrafted signs that capture the golden era of advertising. My work centers on creating and restoring bold, hand-painted signs that include vibrant murals, intricate gold-leaf lettering, and restored antiques that tell a story. I’m known for collaborating with iconic brands like Coca-Cola, RC Cola, and Pepsi, bringing their logos to life with an authentic, hand-painted touch that stands out in today’s digital world.

I’m most proud of restoring a 1930s Coca-Cola ghost sign featuring the Sprite boy for Coca-Cola themselves. Reviving that rusted piece into a glowing landmark was a labor of love that connected me to the city’s heritage. What sets me apart is my dedication to traditional techniques, no vinyl decals or shortcuts here. Every brushstroke is intentional, blending art with history. My passion is crafting signs that not only elevate brands but also strengthen our community’s sense of place and pride.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up in Louisville, KY I was a curious, hands-on kid with a knack for creating things. I’d spend hours sketching in notebooks, fascinated by bold colors and old-school advertising I’d spot on family road trips, the most removable one I think was a weathered Coca-Cola sign on the side of a barn in Ohio. That sparked my love for vintage aesthetics, which later became my career. Personality-wise, I was a mix of dreamer and doer: always imagining big ideas but stubborn about figuring out how to make them real, whether it was building a treehouse or painting murals on my bedroom walls.
