An Inspired Chat with Kim Brown

We recently had the chance to connect with Kim Brown and have shared our conversation below.

Kim, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 mins of my day is upon arrival at the salon I go through my schedule for the day to make sure that I have everything I need for each service. I also prep for my very first appointment.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kim, but my clients know me as KayBee. I’m a licensed hairstylist in Jacksonville, Fl. I specialize in natural hair care, hair extensions, hair color, and some braids.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My mother taught me the most about work. As a single mother of 3 kids, I watched her work 12 hour days then came home took care of the house hold and her kids all by herself. She would always say you work hard so you don’t have to depend on anyone.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Wow, this is a great question. I used to fear change. I don’t like to be uncomfortable and change makes me uncomfortable. However, when my husband and I decided to move from Atlanta to Jacksonville, I was nervous and fearful. But honestly. I wish we would have made a change sooner, because our lives has changed for the better.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I’m committed to getting my non profit organization off the ground. My non profit organization is called the Sandy Kate Foundation: A Wig for a Cause. I want to make wigs for cancer patients. I also want to commit to going to a women and children’s shelter on a weekday and doing their hair for free as a part of this organization as well.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Absolutely! I feel like you always have to give your best because you never know who is watching.
