Rising Stars: Meet Monique Hargrow of Westside

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Hargrow.

Hi Monique, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
We are a small wedding floral design company specializing in Luxe Garden Weddings. My mother started our business about 10 years ago, and I reopened it in 2019; we named our business after our grandma, Bertha. She had seven kids, 14a grandkids, and a ton of great-grandkids. She was our Queen Bee! So Bee is for Bertha, and we are her Blossoms. Growing up, our family always had plants in their home. My grandma’s house in NYC had plants all over the AC unit in the window, and my Aunt Jeannie had all kinds of tropical plants in her house. So it just comes naturally that we love flowers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting was exciting but scary trying to figure out the ins and outs and what works and what doesn’t. I also have health issues. I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and Rheumatoid Arthritis early in growing our business, adding a few thorns to the journey. Just like a rose, it grows beautiful, but there are thorns. Being in pain and exhausted but still working to push through to see the fruits of our labors. This has required us to move and grow slowly but steadily.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We specialize in floral wedding design. Our look is a traditional garden and also a twist organic. We also provide a variety of designer choice bouquets for your everyday celebrations and occasions. We try to be true to ourselves and what feels authentically genuine. Not necessarily following all the upcoming trends but keeping true to our unique style and incorporating modern aspects.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
To be flexible and unafraid to try new things! We expanded our services to include soy candles, cold processed soaps, and self-care items like body oils and butter.
