Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Saoud.
Hi Sandy, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
We started a business in 2020 – things were going well until one day, we lost our lease to a big chain. We regrouped a few months later with just an idea to bring a casual spot serving up some of our favorite Levantine dishes with a twist – we coupled that with our love for natural wine and took a chance. We knew two things: the food/fine had to be killer, and our business model would be fast casual.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No! (Lol) most of this journey has been smooth. I love everything about Falafel x Bar but owning a business is hard – anything from rising food costs, supply chain issues, staffing, and unpredictable traffic patterns pose challenges. I learn something new daily – I take the challenges as they come and try to focus on how to get better, improve processes and continue to grow.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I co-own/operate Falafel x Bar. On evenings and weekends, I am part of the labor model, working directly with guests in front of the house and helping with food prep (i love it). My primary responsibilities include: curating new menu ideas, service, social media, and overall growth. I’ve also worked with a financial institution for 22 years – I am a banking professional and currently serve as a market director. (I love this job too).
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you.
I am indeed lucky to be surrounded by family that cares about me. My mom, husband, mother-in-law, brother, and sister – in -law help me keep everything in motion, and they are the reason I can pursue my corporate career and entrepreneurship.
