Hidden Gems: Meet 904 Nannies

Today we’d like to introduce you to Whitney Mead, Emmy Stephen, Jessie Zamora Oermann and Megan Reardon of 904 Nanies. They share their story with us below:

904 Nannies is a nanny placement agency run by four women who are currently working full time as nannies. The agency started as Jessie’s vision and she invited Whitney, Megan, and Emmy to join in on the endeavor. Together we’ve accumulated more than 40 years in the childcare industry so we know a thing or two about what it’s like to help raise tiny humans alongside their parents.

Because being a nanny can be so isolating, over the last couple of years we’ve worked hard to build a local, thriving community where nannies can come for advice, mentorship, and friendship.

While building this community, we noticed that our area lacked an agency that was willing to advocate for both the nannies and the families in a way that was fair and legal on both sides, and because of our unique insight being nannies ourselves, we knew we could help fill in that gap.

After a little over a year of preparation, we officially launched our business on April 1st, and we couldn’t be more excited to get started helping families find a nanny that will fit seamlessly into their lives and help fill their needs.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting the business has gone more smoothly than we could have hoped. Each of us has our own unique strengths and talents that lend themselves to the roles we’ve carved out for ourselves.

It’s clear that we were meant to be a team because what is one person’s weakness is another person’s strength.

We’ve been impressed with 904 Nannies, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a nanny referral agency. What sets us apart – On top of our combined 40+ years of childcare experience, the team at 904 Nannies has accumulated many hours of continuing education, training, and supplemental certifications.

We understand the specific needs of our families and nannies to make a picture-perfect fit. We realize each family has unique needs to keep the rhythm of a family running seamlessly. That is why we are passionate about learning about each of our nannies so that we can help families make an informed decision about the person who meets their requirements and will help enrich their lives.

Because we are nannies ourselves, we have established a foothold within the nanny world. We are creating nanny exclusive meet-ups, attending training seminars, creating forums for nannies to grow and connect and so much more. Employing a nanny with access to a support system not only benefits the nanny but also the family that they work with.

Another thing to note is that our relationship does not stop after we place a nanny for a family. Families and their nannies will have access to insight on the going rates, tax laws, and industry standards from our Nanny Industry Specialist.

They will also gain access to an exclusive newsletter that highlights local activities, and also includes industry-related tips, articles, and other resources on how to cultivate a well-rounded, professional relationship.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Why should parents invest in a nanny over other childcare options? Nannies offer the opportunity to handpick the person your child is going to be interacting with on a regular basis.

When a parent chooses a nanny, it allows them to take their parenting style into consideration and make more individualized decisions on how their children are educated, disciplined, and socialized. Nannies also allow for more flexibility such as individualized hours based on the family’s needs and care for sick children.

When considering a nanny, parents should make sure they do a thorough interview, call past references, and do a background check to ensure they’re getting the best possible person to care for their children. This can sometimes feel like a daunting task, and that’s why we’re here to help.
