Exploring Life & Business with Natalie McBride and Megan Mangiaracino of Baby Boldly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Natalie McBride and Megan Mangiaracino. Them and their team share their story with us below:

We formed Baby Boldly in 2018 after we had both personally experienced the challenges of new motherhood. We felt strongly that there was a huge market gap for supporting moms at this critical time.

After Natalie survived three years of postpartum depression and anxiety, at first we planned to build a business around maternity services, but we pivoted one evening quite abruptly. Natalie was prepping for the birth of her second daughter and found packing for the hospital to be a huge task, yet again. She went online to see if she could buy one pre-packed to make her life easier, but there were no results.

Natalie called Megan right away and pitched the idea of a pre-packed birth bag to her. We immediately began forming concepts and designing the perfect birth bag. It took us an entire year to perfect it, source all the products and put it to the test with other moms. We launched in the fall of 2019, and within a few months, we were earning interest from some of the biggest influencers in the maternity/baby industry.

We’ve been growing quickly and since moved out of our original HQ in Megan’s bonus room + garage and are now in our own office space. In addition to our signature birth bag, we’ve curated a surrogate-focused birth bag and will launch our own line of innovative labor gowns this year.

We’ve been featured on Buzzfeed, cNet, NBC News LA, Motherly, Gugu, and more.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Of course not! We often say that we each have two kids with our spouses, and then Baby Boldly is the baby we had together. Starting and scaling a business is similar to parenting – it is incredibly hard, very challenging, exhausting, rewarding, and adds so much color to our life!

When we launched our brand, we were both working full time, so there were a lot of late nights and weekends (all amidst years of sleep-deprived nights due to our young children).

After just six months in business, COVID hit. As it did for all of us, it brought a lot of uncertainty to our business. In the end, we thrived during the pandemic because we had the solution for pregnant moms who weren’t able to pack their hospital bags as many of us had before.

And we’ve had our share of letdowns – opportunities that seemed promising and then didn’t work out as expected. We’ve made some mistakes, and in those moments, we take time to reflect and acknowledge our mistakes, learn what we can from them, and forge ahead.

As a dynamic duo, we’re good at reminding each other not to beat ourselves up over our mistakes. Just like in parenthood, each new stage is our first experience, so we’ve learned a deeper level of grace with ourselves as we learn the ropes.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a mission-driven company striving to fill the gaps of care and support in pregnancy, birth, postpartum, and early parenting.

Our non-toxic, pre-packed hospital birth bags are the first of their kind in the United States. While we’re very proud of this, we know this is just the beginning of what’s to come from our offerings to growing families.

We are creatively making a new product concept and innovative ways to improve the experience of birth and postpartum prep in America.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
It ALWAYS takes a village to build something, whether it’s a family or a business. We’ve done both together as friends, but we also have a crowd of cheerleaders and supporters for whom we are most grateful.

Our spouses believe in what we’re accomplishing and have taken on some different responsibilities than they may have imagined. We each have a professional mentor, proud parents, and a remarkable circle of friends who are consistently cheering us on as we grow.

Our customers have blessed us with the most thoughtfully-written five-star reviews and share their referrals wholeheartedly.
