Conversations with Kelsey Dortelus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Dortelus.

Hi Kelsey, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Growing up, I’ve always had a passion for beauty and dancing. I was born in Broward County but moved to Ohio when I was younger; I was heavily involved in the talent shows, performing every year, I taught myself how to do my makeup in middle school, and I loved getting dressing up to take pictures. I moved to Tallahassee for school, and my love for beauty and dancing grew; I joined the ladies of TorQue, my makeup skills grew, and I started modeling for several local brands such as AMRLTN, Tout Fabuleux, E &E Hausofheels, and Shais Palace. I am still growing in all spaces while attending nursing school. I’m truly going after all my dreams.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. The challenges I’ve experienced while managing all my interests, working, and pursuing a nursing degree have molded me into the person I am today and tested my capabilities. I won’t get into too much of what I’ve gone through, but I will say that I drew closer to my faith, I’ve learned proper time management, strengthened my patience, learned how much my body can handle, I’ve mastered a quick soft beat, and can have a routine down pact in 24 hours.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of my journey to this point. There have been many ups and downs, but my dreams and goals have never wavered. I am an aspiring model. I am a nursing student. I am a dancer. I know exactly who I am and where I want/need to be, and I know I will get there. My personality sets me apart from others; I don’t try to be anyone but myself. My authenticity speaks for itself.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
I’ve had a lot of support from my friends and family! My mom, my brother and sisters, my cousins Diana and Simone, and my close friends. Every person has aided me in different ways throughout my journey, assisting me in photo shoots, attending every dance show, helping me with routines, and so much more! Most importantly, God. My faith has kept me together.
