Conversations with Ashlee Butler

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Butler.

Hi Ashlee, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my journey in makeup about 7 years ago right after high school. I knew from there that I wanted to go to school and make myself even more marketable.

After a few years, I was able to start cosmetology school at The Salon Professional Academy in Sherwood, Arkansas, and graduated in 2018. My first job in a salon was the best choice I could have made!

I was able to gain experience working at major weddings and it helped me get the exposure I wanted in my career! It’s where I got my first job ever for CNN as a freelance makeup artist and hairstylist!

Once I left and went on my own, I started freelancing for MSNBS, and Fox Business and continued working for CNN. All through HillStone Creek Production Company in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 2021, I decided to move to Jacksonville to be with my older sister, but I wanted to keep my dreams and goals as my main focus!

I got my license transferred to Florida and I have continued to promote myself and my business through social media! My family and my close friends have been my biggest supporters throughout this entire journey! I wouldn’t be where I am today without them and without the drive I have inside me to succeed!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When you’re on the path of something that you are meant to do, there will always be trials and tribulations! When I decided to move, I lost clientele and I was so scared about how hard it would be to gain it back after I moved states.

I doubted myself and my abilities, which made it hard for me to believe that I could make it when I first moved to Jax. It took months for my license to transfer, I got distracted by other jobs, and I’ve been turned down by salons.

But I continued to promote myself and improve my skills while being told I’m not good enough by others! I’ve taken every “L” as a lesson and not a loss! Those lessons are what led me to finding my new salon home at Lavish Beauty Bar By Paris!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a licensed cosmetologist! I specialize in wedding/broadcast hair and makeup. I am known for my evolving makeup skills and my work on nationwide new stations.

I am most proud of the fact that although I worked for these news stations and government officials, they personally continued to book me for more segments and even outside events. To build a rapport for my work with my clients and have them continue to trust me as their stylist and makeup artist, is the best feeling and accomplishment an artist can have!

I believe that my professionalism along with my skill is what sets me apart from others. I believe highly in being professional at all times in a workplace environment and getting things done in a timely manner. Production companies rely on timing and efficiency, which are key points to being in a professional setting.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I like Jacksonville for its ambition.

I haven’t met one local who isn’t ambitious with a goal and a dream! The only thing I want to help change is the thought that you can’t make it in this city. I’ve heard that so many times and I do not believe it one bit!
