Check Out Sherrie Baker’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sherrie Baker.

Hi Sherrie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Work Ethic! It all started as a little girl running around my grandfather’s mechanic shop getting oily and dirty literally! My grandfather was the first person I knew personally that had his own business, lived life on his own terms and had the freedom he was not chained to a job and I always admired that most importantly he had a gift that brought value to the market place people would wait hours just for him to work on their cars. His work ethic was his resume and it kept the people coming back and referring others to him. I wanted to be just like my grandfather in the female form now I, on the other hand, worked jobs but I always had the work ethic of my grandfather instilled in me so it always helped me maneuver throughout my career. Let’s fast forward a little bit now I’m about 12 years in as a pharmacy technician and even though I love what I do and I love serving people in their time of need. I wanted and craved more freedom from the 9 to 5 lifestyle, and more options in life and I needed to create a business that would give my children the head start they would need in life. I wanted to create a business that would be a Legacy for those connected to me. How would I do that? I’m glad you asked! I would do this by solving a problem. Working as a pharmacy technician I lived in scrubs now my problem was I was slim so even small scrubs would be baggy, bulking not flattering on me at all. I knew I could not be the only person experiencing this so my goal was to become a scrub retailer and ensure that I would have scrubs that offered 4-way stretch fabric, comfortable, fashionable and sleek fitting with multiple pockets for storage. I believe when you wear scrubs that look awesome on you it gives you that confidence to take over the day. When you look good you feel good. That is how Saxy Scrubs was born on March 11, 2021. I opened my store inside of 1Bridge Connect in April 2021 I have learned a wealth of knowledge by being connected.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Honestly, with anything you do in life, there will be obstacles and challenges I truly believe obstacles come to make you a better version of yourself honestly. My business has taught me to be even more disciplined, organized and focused. No one is coming to hold your hand and do the work for you. You must stay focused, disciplined, and diligent to grow and move to the next level. Another lesson/ challenge is shifting from an employee mindset to an entrepreneur mindset but, I am currently working on this and creating my path.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I have been a pharmacy technician for 12 years now. I love helping people and being able to give back to the community through local health fairs. I like to educate patients on resources they may not know is available to them.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up I was super ambitious, goofy and I loved to read all the time.
