Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Watson.
Hi Jason, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Started training in martial arts in 1982 at Chung’s Martial Arts on University Blvd. My parents opened a facility in 1986 off of San Jose blvd where I trained focusing on Olympic-style Taekwondo.
I won many state and national titles and eventually took ownership of the facility in 1994.
Moving from a competitor to a trainer I had the great honor of coaching elite-level fighters to National and International titles while helping hundreds of students reach their goal of achieving a Black Belt.
I created our FightFit Fitness program in 2005 which now has certified trainers all over the world.
In 2014, I purchased the property where we currently hold our FightFit and Watson Martial classes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I love teaching, it is my passion and what I believe that I was built to do. There have been many challenges along the way…
The challenge of getting students to believe in themselves, face adversity, and accomplish their goals.
The challenge of running a business while managing quality time with my family.
The challenge of dealing with COVID and fighting thru shutdowns and fear that it placed on the community.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Coaching a student to Black Belt is a long and difficult journey. It takes a minimum of 4 years and only the dedicated few achieve this goal. I aspire to assist every single one of my students to reach this goal. There is no better feeling than tying on the Black Belt to someone who has given their all to the process. My hopes are that I help my students truly believe that with dedication and hard work they can do great things.
How do you think about luck?
I believe that “luck” whether bad is good is product of our choices. If we choose to take actions that will have a positive impact on us or the people around us we have higher chance of having something “lucky” happy to us. A lottery winner doesn’t win if they don’t purchase a ticket.
