Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Powers.
Hi Chelsea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey started back in 2011 on the small island of Kauai, HI. I was tired of working for “the man” and had a conversation with my then-boyfriend (now husband) about good business revenues that could give me the freedom I was so desperately seeking. We both looked at each other and agreed that creating a cleaning company would be incredibly lucrative, I already had experience from working with other cleaning companies and had the knowledge I needed in order to feel confident enough to spread my wings, that’s when Paradise Cleaning Company was born, it was the best decision I ever made. Fast forward to 2019, Paradise Cleaning Co is thriving and my husband Reno was now a full time partner within my business, we had a full staff, and great clients and gained so much more knowledge of the vacation rental industry.. but, we wanted more, and Kauai was no longer providing that for us so we sold Paradise Cleaning and moved to beautiful Saint Augustine. Moving is not easy, but I was adamant about creating a clientele base before we hit Saint Augustine, it took tons of phone calls, creating an exciting social media presence and also creating a new but meaningful business name, Ohana Cleaning Company, which in Hawaiian means “Family”.. and that’s just what we are, a family-owned and operated business, our staff and clients mean the world to us and are quite literally an extension of our family. Being in business for myself hasn’t always been fun, I’ve cried, almost given up, felt lost and most days have been beyond exhausted.. but I have not given up, the pandemic didn’t stop me, it just made me stronger. We started as a very small business and now have gained recognition in two states, Hawaii and Florida. We have over 50 accounts and a full staff of the most loving crew members a business owner could ask for. We’re very lucky
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been numerous times that I wanted to throw in the towel due to disrespectful people, the service industry is cutthroat and you need to know what boundaries you have and implement those into your workflow, otherwise, people will take advantage of you. It took me years to find what my boundaries were, now I have those confidently set in my day-to-day life and it has made me feel so much more confident and happy. I just remind myself when I’m having a rough patch that this is what I enjoy doing, it makes me happy and it’s OKAY to have a bad day… just keep going and whatever you do, don’t give up!

Ohana Cleaning Company specializes in cleaning Luxury Vacation Rentals, my company stands out from most cleaning companies because of our attention to detail with our staging style and the level of sanitation we provide. I’m most proud of my amazing staff, they work so hard and I would do anything for them, they’re my family and treat my clients and properties with so much respect.
What are your plans for the future?
My husband and I would like to see Ohana grow nationally, that’s a very big goal but we plan to take baby steps in order to expand to most tourist destinations. Next stop, Las Vegas and California.
