Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Hunt.
Hi Sarah, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m an indie artist originally from Wake Forest, North Carolina, now based in Jacksonville, Florida. As a queer woman, my identity deeply informs my music, which lives somewhere between diary pages and daydreams. I’ve been writing songs since I was 12, but it wasn’t until high school that I began sharing bits and pieces of my work — timidly uploading tracks to SoundCloud while wrestling with self-doubt.
Music has always been my form of therapy. It’s where I can be brutally honest, even when I can’t speak the words out loud. I write like I’m writing in my journal, and I hope that vulnerability helps people feel a little less alone. If my songs can be a form of comfort or escape — the way music has always been for me — then I’ve done what I came here to do.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve been lucky to have my work on major platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, and even more fortunate to connect with a community of creatives who inspire and support me. My journey hasn’t been without its struggles — from battling mental health challenges to navigating my identity — but those experiences have only deepened my artistry.
In the beginning, I made music on my iPhone using wired headphones, capturing raw emotion in whatever ways I could. Over the years, I’ve grown with my sound and my tools — learning DAWs, teaching myself guitar, and slowly building the confidence to take up space as an artist. About two years ago, I got serious about my music, shifting from lo-fi demos to more professional releases and fully committing to the path I’d always dreamed of walking.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My music lives in that indie sad girl realm — emotionally tender, a little dreamy, often heart-wrenching. Love is at the core of what I write about — not just romantic love, but the aching, passionate spectrum of feeling that comes with being a highly sensitive person. Heartbreak, queerness, social justice, and spirituality all show up in my work. I feel most connected to my creativity when I’m immersed in nature or tuning into something bigger than myself.
Artists like The Cranberries, Men I Trust, Clairo, Lianne La Havas, and Chappell Roan have shaped how I approach sound — with softness, sincerity, and strength.
Right now, I’m working on my debut EP — something raw, reflective, and real. I’m excited to start performing locally and collaborating with other artists in my area. This chapter feels like a long-awaited beginning. You can find me on streaming platform as Ugh Sarah
