Today we’d like to introduce you to Vanessa Ferketich.
Hi Vanessa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have specialized in general and vascular ultrasound since 2009. I scan all sorts of body parts-liver, gallbladder, kidneys, pancreas, thyroid, uterus, scrotum, aorta, carotid arteries, veins & arteries in the legs & arms. I have spent my career working closely with radiologists as a diagnostic sonographer for hospitals, outpatient centers, and physician offices in Northeast Florida. My passion for ultrasound has led me to branch out from clinical settings to provide mobile, concierge services in her surrounding Florida community. I can go right to their home or place of employment to scan them! This makes it super convenient & in a more comfortable setting.
I have been credentialed with the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography since 2012. I am also a member of the Society of Medical Sonography. I obtained a Bachelor’s degree from Flagler College in Saint Augustine, FL then went on to obtain an Associate’s degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography in 2008.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a bumpy road & learning to pivot has been crucial. A huge hurdle is insurance. It is a hassle to bill insurance & have claims denied for exams that the patient absolutely needs. I have seen so many patients not get the care they need due to insurance restrictions. This has led me to pivot & join forces with direct primary care/concierge providers. They offer self-pay rates for those without insurance & can really cater to & care for their patients they way they deserve. Self-pay allows me to be mobile & do the exam at their home or workplace, whereas insurance does not allow that option.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We offer concierge, self-pay diagnostic ultrasound that comes right to your home or work. I also work with physicians in their clinics. I like to treat every patient as a family member. It really does my heart good to connect with patients & help them get one step closer to feeling better. That’s why I really like working with direct primary care providers, we can take the time we need to give the best care possible & make the patients feel seen & heard. After working in hospitals for 15years I am confident in my ultrasound abilities & do my very best for every patient, every time.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
Insurance dictates healthcare. Private practice doctors are struggling so big hospitals are buying them out & contracting with insurance companies so they dictate who & where you must go for healthcare. Small companies like mine are not allowed to do their exams so that limits who I can work with.
