Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
In February of 2025, I was in London on a tour date for my dance company, Shake Culture Dance. While there, I met with a dear friend of mine, Nina, for lunch at this amazing West African Restaurant. I told her about being very stressed at my current job because I was doing the work of three people with no signs of a promotion. I was also coming up on 7 years of Corporate America in April. She encouraged me to start offering some accounting services on the side for extra money and to have an escape plan. I told her I barely had time to do the job and run my dance company. The idea of starting something new made me want to take a nap! She encouraged me to still think of a business plan so that when I did have the time to start something new, I could hit the ground running. I brainstormed the business plan at that lunch and even the name, Praise Bookkeeping. Thank God I did because 45 days after that lunch, I got laid off on a Friday and immediately launched Praise Bookkeeping the following Monday. In the first two weeks, we were serving 8 clients who have all been happy with our services and have all booked other services.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
A struggle right now is creating a client referral funnel. Right now, all the clients we have helped have been from cold pitching. I would love to have referral partnerships with other small businesses to have a consistent stream of clients coming in who need our services

How do you think about happiness?
It’s been such an amazing journey helping other small business owners with their financial goals and needs. So many of their needs are similar to mine when I first started my dance company. It’s been such a pleasure sharing my knowledge as an accountant of 7 years and an entrepreneur of 5 years with other small business owners and seeing that it’s so helpful.
