Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Clark.
Hi Emily, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi! I’m Emily, a 26-year-old career nanny from Orange Park, Florida. As early as I can remember, I was surrounded by children. I grew up in a home daycare, attended summer camps, art clubs, church and spent time with the close-knit circle of friends and family who helped raise me. Being around other kids and people who were passionate about helping kids felt natural. That sense of community shaped everything about who I am.
I’ve been working with children since I was a teenager, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. In high school, I completed a 4-year Early Childhood Education program at Fleming Island High and earned my CDA (Child Development Associate). During my senior year, I was already in the field – working at Camp Immokalee as a Residential Counselor and the YMCA as an Experience Maker. I got hands-on experience and loved every second of it.
After graduating, I stepped into a full-time role as a Preschool Teacher. It taught me so much about group dynamics, patience, and the power of connection. I later tried a few jobs outside of childcare, but it didn’t take long to realize my heart was still with the little ones.
That led me to a Reggio Emilia-inspired center, where the focus on child-led learning, nature, and creativity completely clicked with me. From there, I transitioned into nannying. Now I build deeper connections with families and truly tailor each day to a child’s needs.
I’ve been a career nanny since 2023, and it’s been the biggest blessing. I take an individualized approach rooted in nature, music, and art – with a strong focus on the Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, and Montessori philosophies. Building strong bonds with families and being there for their children is what makes my heart happiest.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road – there have definitely been some learning curves along the way! When I first started out, I worked with a family without a formal contract and was paid under the table. As a new nanny, I didn’t yet know how to advocate for myself.
Since then, I’ve learned so much about the industry and the importance of setting clear boundaries and expectations from the start. I now work under a contract, am a W-2 employee, and even receive benefits. This growth has helped me step into my role with more confidence and professionalism, and taught me how to ensure every position is a good fit for both me and the families I support.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What sets me apart is my creativity and optimism! I’m a big believer that there’s always a way to turn a rough day around. I love coming up with fun, unexpected ways to keep kids engaged, whether that’s a backyard bug hunt, a DIY art project, or an impromptu dance party. I try to be that calm, steady presence kids can rely on, while also being the kind of grown-up who’s not afraid to be silly, messy, and find the magic in everyday.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Pinterest is my go-to for creative inspiration. I also love connecting with local nannies at Jacksonville meetups with The Nanny Social League. It’s a great way to share ideas, support each other, and stay grounded in this unique line of work.
Additionally, I’m part of a nationwide GroupMe chat with fellow nannies. Over time, these virtual connections have blossomed into close friendships. We share advice, celebrate wins, and support each other through the ups and downs of nanny life.
