Today we’d like to introduce you to Monya Sharp.
Hi Monya , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey with events first started at the University of Florida. As the first vice president of the chapter of my Sorority, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., my tasks were to plan and execute programming on UF’s campus. While being involved in that aspect, I also served as the Black History Month Director. As the Director, I curated 24 events throughout the month of February from fundraisers to one of the largest concerts to date at UF with Kendrick Lamar. After college, I found myself planning and decorating events for friends to my very own themed events. My partner, David, noticed that I had a passion for events and saw it as an opportunity to push me towards entrepreneurship. So on Valentines Day of 2024, the same day as my son’s 2nd birthday, he gifted me with the paperwork for my LLC, Super Sharp Events. Since then, things have bloomed beyond my imagination. My first official paid event was a 70th birthday party for a friend’s dad, then two weeks later a Masters graduation celebration, The MASTERade Ball with a little under a 100 guests. I have hit the pavements of Jacksonville attending open houses, networking events, collaborating and building vendor lists, and clientele. Last year, I successfully planned and executed over 25 events including two weddings with just myself and my friends who have supported my journey in such a major way. I have expanded into rentals and balloons since just last year as well. What gives me the most joy is seeing a client in awe that something that was once a vision comes together in real life. My signature is to provide customized surprise elements to show a client that I am in tune with the parts that they did not think of and my goal is for the entire process to be seamless from beginning to end. What’s next for Super Sharp Events? Only time will tell. I can only pray that this business continues to grow and expand while keeping hold to my vision to ensure every event is done the SHARP way-

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I must admit that it has not been a smooth road. I started with a mindset of say YES to everything even if it meant that I would have sleepless nights or come out of pocket. I also dove head first into thinking that I needed to buy everything for my business without a solid business plan as to where I would store these items and how much I would charge to rent them. Let’s just say I was overly excited. Another struggle has been balancing full time job, a toddler, home life, self care, a relationship, traveling, all while managing a business with just friends and family to help with they can. Talk about rough!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Super Sharp Events, LLC is a full service event planning company. We can provide anywhere from planning, decorating, and staffing vendors for events. We serve the greater Jacksonville area primarily, but have curated events in Atlanta, Miami, Bahamas, St Augustine, and Gainesville. We pride ourselves on attention to details from the time we have our first consultation with a client. Those details are carefully integrated into the client’s event. I am most proud of the fact that my brand continues to grow. It amazes me that I went from only having friend’s to clients, to referrals, to strangers that become repeat clients. I would like for readers to know that Super Sharp Events, LLC. is really a one stop shop. We even love to create graphics, invites, theme design, you name it, we can get it done!
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson that I have learned so far is that it ok to say no and to set boundaries. I have learned what capacity I have and for that in which I don’t, I have no problem sharing the wealth. Just because the name is Super Sharp does not mean I am superwoman.
