Meet Brianna Andrews of Jacksonville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Andrews

Hi Brianna, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always wanted to be a new since the fifth grade. I remember watching CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien on air covering the Hurricane Katrina aftermath. She was so passionate and advocated for people who had lost everything at the time. That was the moment that I knew I wanted to be a journalist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey there was not easy at all. I graduated from Quinnipiac University, and while there I tried to make myself as competitive as possible. I had six internships all in broadcast news, including one where I attended the Noble Peace Prize World Summit in Bogota, Columbia. I even completed a semester in DC where I participated in an advanced journalism program which really built up my skills. But with all that preparation, I still was not able to land my first on-air job out of college. I actually was not able to land a job in my field until a year later. But I kept going. Even when I was unemployed, I would use my cell phone and independently do new stories, covering snowstorms and politics. I would even go as far as practicing live shots in the middle of Times Square. Eventually got a job in network news. While I was there, I kept chasing stories independently, which eventually allowed me to land my first on-air job a year later.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an Emmy award-winning news anchor and reporter at WJXT in Jacksonville, Florida. I think something that says me apart from others is that I always lead with compassion, no matter what.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
All of my mentors, my husband, and all of my loved ones and friends to have supported me on this journey and moments when I wanted to quit, The reminded me to keep going.
