Today we’d like to introduce you to Trinity Griffith
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Well, I got into both art & music at a young age, I started attending after school art clubs in my Elementary days, and I remember my first concert quite fondly, it was Slash opening up for Ozzy Osbourne at the Memorial Arena Feb. 22, 2011. For the longest time I mainly drew realism pieces and some comic book style art in between, it wasn’t until my senior year in high school and onward that I took an interest in a more abstract or weird direction, and even then making gig posters wasn’t on my radar, I wasn’t yet introduced to that world of art and design. At some point in my senior year I discovered The Grateful Dead and got really into them and a lot of surrounding bands of the same era (The Doors, 13th Floor Elevators, Hendrix, Captain Beefheart and many more…) and started diving in to the vibrant scene and culture from that period of the late 60’s. The more I got into that era of music ad culture the more I came across works from incredible figures of that time, Stanley Mouse & Alton Kelley, Rick Griffin, Victor Moscoso and all the incredible Art Nouveau inspired posters that were created for a lot of amazing acts. As a young adult I knew I wanted to be involved in my local scene somehow, doing something music related, so back in August of 2022 I started recording shows with a good friend, and making ‘bootleg’ cover art for those recordings to make cassette tapes and youtube uploads with. Eventually, I was approached by local psych legends Killer Larry to come tape a few shows and they ended up asking me to make a poster for a show at Vooswar with Kairos Creature Club, that was for March 9, 2024. That was my first ever official gig poster, throughout last year I continued working heavily with Killer Larry making art & posters for a majority of their shows and tour, as well as doing flyers for other local events & bands whether it be incredible line ups at Vooswar or a DIY House show. At this point I’m just continuing to hone my craft, push myself, try new things, and continue being exposed to incredible Art, Music, and people. 🙂
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
For the most part I can confidently say it has been a pretty smooth road, the hardest part for me has been breaking out of my shell, having some confidence and networking with people, when I first started making posters and art for bands I was not outgoing at all haha, the Killer Larry guys approached me first and I just went with it, and from the last year alone doing it, I’ve learned so much about my self and just have a way easier time getting out there.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
So, I mainly do art for bands or music related things, whether someone needs a logo, merch designs, or a show poster, I’m there for it. I guess people probably know me for/recognize my psychedelic style, but I do really enjoy pushing myself to try new things or ideas that I haven’t before, I like to keep it interesting for myself and the people that’ll be seeing my work.
How do you think about luck?
I’d probably have to say a huge one, I’ve been very fortunate in having a somewhat easy time talking to and befriending some amazing people, and the guys from Killer Larry hitting me up I feel like was pure luck too.
Pricing:
- I typically charge around $50 for a show poster at this moment, logos and other designs vary.
