Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Munoz
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Kari. I was born and raised in Jacksonville, Florida. I started my sobriety adventure in 2019, and although it presented multiple challenges, I found my purpose through service. My adventure, among many others on the sober-brick-road, has been filled with heartbreak and struggles.
Both recovery and deterioration are achieved the same way: one day at a time.
I deeply respect women choosing recovery. This has enabled me to serve my community in the best way I know how—by opening a sober living home right here in my hometown. I’m driven to give back to the community that shaped me. I also want to help other women stay sober.
This is for the women who are committed to growth and change. I founded My Best Friend’s Place: This level 2 sober living for women helps many, just like me, who want to live a sober life and need support. I aim to build a safe, friendly, and warm environment for women in 12-step-programs and I want to help them rebuild their lives one day at a time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road to success, but I believe that’s part of the journey. While I may not be where I want to be yet, I have unwavering faith in my higher power and in my heart that My Best Friend’s Place is just the beginning. This home is the first of many that will help women on the west side of Jacksonville take their power back through sobriety. Every challenge and setback has only strengthened my commitment to this mission, and I know that with perseverance and purpose, we’ll create a lasting impact in the lives of women seeking recovery.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As the owner of a sober living residence, I provide a safe, supportive, and structured environment for women in the early stages of recovery. I want to focus on creating a community where women can heal, grow, and rebuild their lives while staying accountable to their sobriety. Our home is grounded in the principles of the 12-step program, offering not just a place to live, but a place to thrive emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.
I strive to help women transition from treatment or difficult life circumstances into independent living, offering guidance, resources, and a supportive sisterhood. What I’m most proud of is seeing the transformation in the women who come through our doors: watching them regain their confidence, rebuild relationships, and take control of their lives is the most rewarding part of this work.
What sets My Best Friend’s Place apart is that it’s deeply personal. I’ve walked this path myself. Not only that, I watched my best friend struggle through it by my side. I know what it feels like to struggle, to stumble, and to rise again. And I know what it feels like to love someone deeply and watch them struggle through the same obstacles. This isn’t just a business; it’s my life’s mission. I’ve created a home that reflects the kind of support I wish my best friend and I had when first starting this journey, filled with compassion, understanding, and the belief that every woman deserves another chance. Being able to offer that to others, especially in my hometown, is what drives me every single day.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
The quality that I believe is most important to my success, and will continue to be in the future, is resilience and faith.
My journey to sobriety and starting My Best Friend’s Place has been filled with challenges, but my faith has kept me resilient, even when things felt overwhelming.
It’s the ability to get back up after setbacks, to keep believing in the mission even when the road gets tough.
Alongside resilience and faith, compassion plays a huge role. Having walked this path myself, I can deeply relate to the struggles the women in our home face. That empathy allows me to create a space where they feel truly understood and supported. I believe that blending resilience, faith, and compassion is the foundation for long-term success for our home.
