Meet Tucker Lenora of Murray Hill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tucker Lenora

Hi Tucker, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I had moved to Jacksonville in 2019 and was looking to connect with people and knowing no one, while turning 40, I thought stand up might be worth a shot. We are fortunate to have a thriving comedy scene here, where you can find 1-3 open mics any night of the week. I used to set my pandora to only play standup, that’s what inspired me. Loving it and being a student of it. I love a variety of comedians but wanted to add one more female voice to a heavily dominated male community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a humbling experience. They say it takes about 7 years to develop an authentic voice. I’m 2+ years years in. So I still have a lot of learning to do, which is compelling. I enjoy being a student. Its takes a tough skin that I wasn’t sure if I had. Overtime I have developed one. In the beginning you’re just absolutely running on pure adrenaline and sheer optimism, that quickly fades. And then the work begins.
A lot of professionals like attorneys and doctors attempt stand up, but it’s difficult at an older age to start from scratch and get through the discomfort of being bad at first. The advantage however is that you have so much more life experience and perspective. But to wrap it up, it’s humbling but addicting.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do stand up comedy, and have had shows in Ga, Lake city, Fl, Jacksonville, Daytona Beach and Sarasota. The crowds are different everywhere. I’m known for my sardonic wit and a sharp tongue to hecklers.
When I am most proud, I’m able to get a very divided demographic laugh together. The greats in comedy had diverse fans. Our country is deeply hurt and divided, and I think laughter is one of the most unifying things you can do.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I am not a lucky human, but I’m grateful to have found some amazing fellow comedians in the scene that have taught me a lot. My back luck would probably entail irritating one local booker who did not develop the thick skin I referred to earlier. Not all networking attempts are successful. And that’s okay. Because at the end of the day all that matters is are you prepared and funny.
