Today we’d like to introduce you to Oliver Gonzalez
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Finding someone who believed in my talents as a journalist or storyteller wasn’t easy. I had to work hard and come up with good ideas in my first job to try to get noticed. Additionally, leaving local press and a project that promised to be bigger to move to a completely new country, to a much larger city, was a huge challenge for my abilities. Later, I emigrated again, this time to the United States. The work and the language have made adapting difficult, but I strive to overcome these challenges day by day.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a seasoned journalist and storyteller, with extensive experience in sports journalism, audiovisual production, photography, and graphic design. My work spans various fields, but I’m particularly known for my coverage of the Venezuelan National Football Team (La Vinotinto), and for my innovative approach to integrating multimedia into traditional journalism.
One of the things I’m most proud of is the role I played in the digital transformation of Correo del Caroní, a key media outlet in Venezuela. Leading the multimedia team, I pioneered the use of social videos, which opened new ways of engaging the audience and presenting news. I’ve also been recognized for my excellence in sports journalism and journalistic layout, winning the “Lucas Manzano” Municipal Journalism Award multiple times.
What sets me apart is my versatility—I’ve held diverse roles from video editing and photography to layout design and community management. I’ve worked across borders in Venezuela, Peru, and the United States, and in each place, I’ve adapted to new challenges, such as navigating different media landscapes and even learning new languages.
More than just reporting news, I strive to tell impactful stories that resonate with people, which I do today through my independent website Crónicas Vinotinto. Following La Vinotinto’s journey towards the 2026 World Cup is my current passion, and I’m committed to sharing their story with a global audience.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
Several resources have been of great help to me, both in my work and personal life.
When it comes to apps, I use Notion a lot for project management, which helps me stay organized, especially when I have to handle multiple creative projects or stories.
Additionally, the Adobe Creative Suite is another indispensable tool for quickly designing when I need to create visuals instantly.
As for books, one that has had a great impact on me is “The War of Art” by Steven Pressfield. It talks about the struggles of creative professionals and how to overcome resistance in any creative endeavor, something that has deeply resonated with me as a journalist and storyteller.
Regarding podcasts, I often listen to “The Tim Ferriss Show”, which features interviews with high performers from various fields. It offers deep insights into productivity, habits, and mental frameworks for success, which I try to incorporate into my daily routines.
These resources help me balance my creative work with productivity and personal growth, keeping me focused and constantly evolving.
