Meet Tetiana Denysenko of Greenville, South Carolina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tetiana Denysenko

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am almost 50, but this is not the first time life makes me feel 18)). The first time, when being a mother of two schoolchildren with a very prestigious diploma and a master’s degree in economics, I regained interest in creativity. I was deeply passionate about it in childhood and adolescence. At 33, I began to dream of becoming an interior designer, completed courses and started working in this field. At 35, I entered the university full-time to get a bachelor’s degree in interior design. My classmates were 17-18 years old. Their parents were about my age. But I was incredibly passionate about my studies and felt like a real freshman. In parallel, I also worked on interior design projects. I adored my profession, and for the next 10 years I felt so comfortable in it, as if I was floating on a mattress in a pool under the warm sun with a refreshing drink in my hand. The Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 pulled my cozy mattress into a pipe and threw me at breakneck speed into the raging open ocean. Without any prior planning, preparation, warning or permission… I didn’t even have time to catch my breath. As a result of these events, at 46 years old, I found myself here in the United States. I didn’t understand what was happening, the ground was shifting from under my feet… All my previous achievements were wiped out… I had to start from scratch: no home, no adequate knowledge of the language. My job and all my past achievements were left behind. In a country far from my homeland, I had to learn to live all over again. But I found solace that cheered me up a little: Hey, girl, remember when you were 18? Didn’t you feel good about taking your first steps in everything? )) And here I am again)) My mind actually makes me believe it))… This attitude gives me the strength to try to catch the wave that threatens to overwhelm me. Now I am cautiously happy, feeling that perseverance and faith help me to row forward.

I am infinitely grateful to my family and incredible people who support me in this endeavor and aspiration❤️

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This was probably the most difficult period. In the first months of the war, none of us understood what was happening. Thoughts about work were thrown aside, the only concern was simply surviving. Later, when I found myself safe in the United States, it took me quite a long time to come to my senses. Naturally, it is very difficult to immediately establish a client base in a new environment, especially in the field of interior design. Renovation is a fairly long process. It can take years to earn the respect and recognition of clients… At first, to make ends meet in the new conditions, I took on different jobs – as a cleaner, a housekeeper, a seamstress in a studio. But inside, a craving for creativity was seething. Despite my experience as an interior designer since 2010 and a huge number of projects, I did not know where to start to understand the intricacies of the American design market. My far from perfect English also held me back. Although the modern design world seems cosmopolitan, and modern technologies erase borders and shorten distances, the more I delved into the US design market, the more differences I discovered – from units of measurement and technical specifications to different construction technologies and systems, as well as traditions and habits of potential clients.

However, my passion for the profession and endless love for my work turn these challenges into opportunities for professional interest and growth. Knowing both European and American nuances of interior design is incredibly exciting and enriches my experience!

I am inspired by the dedication to their profession of my colleagues and partners, whom I was lucky enough to meet here. I have even more deep respect and admiration for the love and dedication to their work that my colleagues and partners in Ukraine show. They teach me perseverance and resilience and are an example of incredible strength!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
As I have already said, I have been engaged in interior design since 2010. I adore all stages of interior creation – from the development of design documentation, joint work with specialists at the construction site, selection of finishing materials, plumbing, furniture, lighting, to decorating the premises. I would also like to mention my constant attendance of specialized professional exhibitions, seminars, and trainings. The awards I have received from international design and architecture awards are a pleasant confirmation of my love and devotion to my profession, the desire to live it day and night. Now I am working on projects in several states. These are both residential and commercial properties. It is a great luck to do what you love so much! It is a huge and incredible happiness to meet people on your way who light you up and I really want to believe that you can light up someone else in the same way! I really like it when the clients with whom we begin to work are carried away by the process, fall in love with it! Repair and interior creation turns into an amazing and exciting business! Each project for me is a very individual story, requiring maximum concentration and study of all the initial data in each specific case.

Any big plans?
The environment plays a huge role and has a great influence on the physical and moral state of a person. It is capable of both relaxing, restoring our strength, inspiring, nourishing and charging with positive energy, and destroying, oppressing, bringing into a depressive state. Moreover, this applies to both inexpensively furnished spaces and spaces related to the luxury level in terms of costs. An inharmonious composition, an incorrect combination of shapes, volumes, colors, materials – on a subtle energy level send unpleasant impulses to our brain. Sometimes people cannot even understand the reason. Even if the first impression did not cause clear unpleasant emotions, after a while you feel tired and tense, not understanding the source of such states. My goal is to help people, using all my knowledge and practical experience, to arrange the spaces in which they live or work, turning them into a comfortable, inspiring habitat. Moreover, hiring a designer, from my personal experience, is always financially beneficial and pays off in full: we know the best places with the most optimal conditions, we always find the best offer for your budget, we know where you can save money and where you shouldn’t, so as not to get future unwanted expenses. I am interested in the fact that for the budget allocated for the project, something was created that exceeds all expectations. Only in this case I feel complete satisfaction from what I do 🙏
