Today we’d like to introduce you to Hnk Wns
Hi HNK, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My whole life i was told “you can’t sing” or “you have to be born with it” Im here to tell you that’s all a lie. As my wise Keyboard teacher said in school “anyone can learn how to sing.” My early childhood was always focused on sports, but I was always drawn to how music was created. My music journey started my Senior year of high school in Keyboard class. I met my good friend and producer Vincent Manzi. The night before he went to Full Sail College, to study music production, we created a song as a joke. Instantly, I fell in love with the process of making songs. After i dropped out of college, I decided I wanted to make music seriously buying myself a cheap microphone and a laptop to start learning this craft. I started dropping all my music on SoundCloud a year later. Once my confidence started to grow and my music became better, i decided i was going to drop a single every week and an EP at the end of every month on all streaming services not just SoundCloud. After a few released singles and one album, Vincent, messaged me through social media appreciating my progress and wanting to work together again. Now he’s helped produce and engineer 10 singles, 2 EP’s and one album for me. I’ve had the chance to explore multiple genres and love writing for all of them. Now with better production, it takes a little more time to put out these singles but definitely worth it.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No, I wouldn’t say smooth. This is a very lonely profession. It’s been a lot of long nights in the studio by myself making music that 99% of people will never hear. It took a lot of failing and getting down on myself. A lot people won’t see the vision, and most people are just going to laugh in your face. I’ve always looked at my music as where i was at in that moment in time. Most people hear rapper or artist and immediately write you off, but it’s all about getting back up after falling down. I became more of an individual thinker instead of always worrying what people were going to say.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a songwriter and a recording artist. My biggest song in known for at the moment is Ashely. I’m most proud of how consistent I have dropped music over the last two years. Most mainstream artists you’re lucky to get an album out of then every two years, so i pride myself in being able to put out an album or EP every month while still being able to drop music videos and singles before.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
It’s alright to read and listen to peoples opinions on you, but don’t let them define you. You create your own reality by how you deal with adversity. Even if you are your own biggest hater acknowledge it then move on. Dwellimg on anything especially failures isn’t helping anyone or yourself. Learn from mistakes and don’t ever get down on yourself.
