Hidden Gems: Meet Greg Rogers of Skylyfe Inc.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Rogers

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Gregory Dupree Rogers, born on January 9, 1986, in Brooklyn, New York, embarked on a life journey marked by educational achievements, military service, and a deep commitment to community service. At the age of six, he relocated to Savannah, Georgia, setting the stage for a remarkable life path.

Gregory’s educational journey began at Sol. C Johnson High School, where he distinguished himself by completing three years of JROTC. Eager to pursue higher education, he enrolled at Truett McConnell in Cleveland, Georgia. This academic pursuit laid the foundation for his future endeavors and instilled a passion for continuous learning.

Following the birth of his oldest daughter in September 2004, Gregory entered the workforce, dedicating his time to Wal-Mart. However, driven by a sense of duty, he made the pivotal decision to join the US Navy. His journey in the Navy commenced with Boot Camp, followed by attendance at Surface Common Core in Great Lakes, IL. In July 2007, he reported to his first command, USS Lake Champlain, where he rapidly advanced to Boatwainsmate 3rd and 2nd class.

Gregory’s commitment to service extended beyond his military duties. He founded the Non-Profit Corporation “Skytopian Umbrella Title I CDC. Inc,” also known as Skylyfe Inc. dedicated to helping those less fortunate and paving a way for the next generation. His devotion earned him Five Navy and Marine Core Achievement Medals and a Good Conduct Medal during his eight-year tour.

In August 2012, Petty Officer Gregory Rogers transitioned to Afloat Training Group San Diego, where he currently serves as a Second Class Petty Officer. Gregory earned the Master Training Specialist qualification and received accolades such as ATGSD and Pacific Fleet Junior Sailor of the Quarter for 2nd Quarter 2013, eventually being named ATGPAC Junior Sailor of the Year for 2013.

Balancing his military commitments, family life, and dedication to education, Gregory pursued a Bachelor’s Degree in Work Force Education and Development at Southern Illinois University. As of now, he is on the cusp of completing his degree, with only two courses remaining. His commitment to education mirrors his commitment to community service, evident in his volunteer work at St. Vincent De Paul Village, Balboa Elementary School, Ronald McDonald House of Charities, and his organization’s initiative “Service the Community,” addressing the needs of San Diego’s homeless population.

Gregory’s global travels as a ambassador allowed him to extend his volunteer efforts overseas, showcasing his dedication to making a positive impact on a global scale. Amidst his military accomplishments, Gregory pursued advanced degrees and certifications, emerging as a dual master’s degree holder. Presently, he serves as a full-stack developer at First Tee Inc., specializing in Frontend development with ReactJS and full-stack JavaScript applications.

With over 8+ years of military and 10+ years of non-profit experience, Gregory stands as an energetic workforce development professional. His analytical skills, adaptability to a fast-paced environment, and visionary leadership make him a standout figure in driving program improvement, establishing quality initiatives, and fostering community support. Gregory’s outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with his ability to address cultural diversity, underscore his ability to build meaningful relationships with a shared sense of purpose.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road at all; there have been several significant challenges along the way. Becoming a father at 19 was one of the first major hurdles I faced. At such a young age, I had to quickly adapt to the responsibilities of parenthood while simultaneously trying to carve out a career path. It was a time of immense pressure, but it also motivated me to push forward and make decisions that would secure a better future for my family.

Transitioning my nonprofit, Skylyfe Inc., into a hybrid organization was another challenging chapter. The process of redefining our mission, expanding our reach, and finding the right funding to support these new initiatives was anything but easy. There were moments of uncertainty where I questioned whether we could sustain our growth, but persistence and a clear vision kept us moving forward.

Living in Spain presented its own set of obstacles. Adapting to a new culture, learning the language, and adjusting to a different pace of life were all challenges that required a lot of resilience. It was a humbling experience that broadened my perspective, but it certainly wasn’t without its difficulties.

On top of these professional and personal challenges, I also faced the profound loss of both my grandmother and grandfather within a span of three years. Coping with their passing while managing everything else was incredibly tough. Their loss was a reminder of the importance of family and the fleeting nature of life, which further fueled my drive to make a meaningful impact through my work

We’ve been impressed with Skylyfe Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Skylyfe Inc. was founded in 2012 with a clear mission: to unify the world through sustainable fashion and technology, strengthen communities through education, and drive economic development in both urban and rural areas. We are committed to creating a positive impact, and this is reflected in every aspect of our organization.

One of the key elements that sets Skylyfe Inc. apart is our innovative use of blockchain technology. We utilize Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Polygon blockchains to authenticate apparel, artwork, and collectibles by providing an immutable chain of ownership. This technology ensures that digital certificates of authenticity are secure, unforgeable, and trustworthy. Our approach not only protects creators but also fosters a more transparent and reliable market for art and fashion.

Our online platform, placeyourprintontheworld.com, is designed to empower creators to take control of their artistic journeys. We believe in democratizing the art world by providing tools that improve trust and liquidity, bringing transparency and uniformity to the market. Art is a powerful expression of the soul, and at Skylyfe Inc., we are dedicated to documenting and advocating for artists who aim to drive cultural revolutions through their work. By harnessing the power of emerging technologies and eco-fashion infrastructures, we give creators a genuine stake in the game.

Our recent partnership with Limitless Wolf Co., a social enterprise based in Jacksonville, FL, further strengthens our commitment to community development. Together, we’re empowering and inspiring youth through comprehensive skill development programs. Our collaboration on the Wolf Ones – Limitless Footwear, a sustainable footwear initiative, showcases our dedication to blending fashion with social impact. Skylyfe Inc.’s 35% unit membership in Limitless Wolf Co. is a testament to our belief in collaborative growth and community-driven innovation.

At Skylyfe Inc., we are most proud of our ability to fuse technology, art, and sustainability into a cohesive brand that not only serves the community but also pushes the boundaries of what’s possible. We want your readers to know that our offerings are more than just products or services; they are part of a larger movement to create a better, more equitable world through creative expression and technological innovation.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
The COVID-19 crisis has taught me several important lessons, particularly about the power and potential of immersive technologies. During the pandemic, we had to rethink how we connect, learn, and create in a world where physical interaction was limited. This challenge pushed us to explore and leverage technologies like Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Spatial Technologies, coding, and 3D printing.

These tools not only allowed us to continue our work remotely but also opened up new possibilities for innovation and creativity. For instance, AR and VR became essential in providing immersive experiences that kept people engaged and connected, even from a distance. Spatial Technologies enabled us to create more interactive and dynamic environments for both education and business, bridging the gap between the physical and digital worlds.

Overall, the COVID-19 pandemic has reinforced my belief in the importance of staying at the forefront of technological advancements. It’s not just about surviving a crisis; it’s about using these moments to innovate, grow, and find new ways to make a positive impact on the world.
