Today, we’d like to introduce you to Paul Askew.
Hi Paul, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
How can a man be such a giver and love the world with such passion? Starting at the age of 5, I have been molested by multiple family members, a coach, and a pastor before reaching 18 years old.
But here I am now, an award-winning singer, writer, producer, label owner, fashion designer, and lover of people and arts. The trials I faced in my life have been truly heart-breaking. But my journey has been one most people have experienced, from sexual assault, mental illness, drug dependency, and debilitating injuries that prevented me from walking and writing.
I have endured rejection, abandonment, and not feeling loved, which led to drug and alcohol abuse, which led to depression, multiple suicide attempts, and self-hate. So now I have released an album called The Book of Paul King Paul Version. I started a podcast Unfiltered with King Paul. I built these platforms to give people who are suffering in silence an outlet. There is someone who has endured your pain and has reached the other side of the rainbow. Now I have a book, “The Book of Paul,” and a docuseries that we are currently filming.
It’s diving deeper into my story and the work I put into getting out of the pain. My story consists of people who made me who I am. These people were responsible for either protecting me or causing the pain in my life. These characters will have their own episode, which will dive into who they are and how they played a role in my tedious journey. The story tells of trials and triumphs. It tells how leaning on God and trusting him will bring you through anything.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I have encountered numerous challenges on my journey, yet I boldly took on the task of accepting my authentic self and standing firm against those who try to control my narrative.
This challenge is particularly intimidating when navigating life in the public eye and striving to meet everyone’s expectations.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe you can tell us more about your work next?
As I joyfully mentioned in the previous question, I am a singer, songwriter, producer, fashion designer, manager, label owner, and brand architect. I am the proud owner of a company called PPMG, where we help artists develop their brand, whether it’s in music, sports, dentistry, etc. Our team consists of 60 talented individuals who work together to bring our client’s visions to life.
From photographers to designers, writers to dentists, hair and makeup artists to web designers, we have it all! Everyone in our network is fully committed, as we have nurtured these relationships over the years. I am thrilled to have created such an incredible platform for artists to pursue their dreams while managing their daily responsibilities. My company is truly unique, offering a one-stop solution for all your needs to achieve success.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am a homebody. I am a recluse at times. I got to bed by 9:00pm every night. My body completely shuts down. Hahaha!
