Today we’d like to introduce you to Enjali Montgomery
Enjali , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My name is Enjali Montgomery and I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I moved to Jacksonville, Florida and attended Andrew Jackson High School. My social media journey started in 2014. I was born with Sickle Cell Anemia that causes red blood cells to become rigid and sickle-shaped. This hereditary disease can block blood flow and lead to anemia. I no longer wanted to suffer in silence and spread the awareness of this disease by joining support groups and other people going through the same. I met Shamonica Wiggins-Mayes who started a campaign called “Bold Lips for Sickle Cell.” I helped promote her campaign, inspiring me to create my own brand called “Team Enji.” Over time, I was married to my husband in 2020 and had a baby. Postpartum depression took over my life for a while until my son turned one years old February of 2023. As a stay at home Mom, I wanted to find an outlet outside of being a Mom and Wife. I would constantly watch creators on YouTube, but was afraid to create my own content due to being a plus size woman. March of 2023 I started my own content and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. I enjoy making content such as the outfit of the day, get ready with me, and wig tutorials videos. Women should know that you can still look great while on a budget. It also shines a light onto the plus size community, because we are underrepresented in the fashion and influencer spaces.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been a smooth journey with content creating. I find it hard to be consistent while being a working mom and taking care of my family. My family always comes first in anything that I do. Content creating cost money so even though it is something that I love, its quite time consuming and expensive.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My content has consisted of beauty, hair, and outfit ideas. Plus size content is my specialty. BloomChic, Kiss, and Burberry are some of the brands I’ve worked with. I stay authentic as possible with my content and don’t desire to be “perfect”. The audience should be able to relate with my good and bad days. It’s not only about showing perfection. I accomplished a lot with the span of a year. It’s been amazing to work with many brands so early in my career. I am grateful for every brand I work with now and in the future.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I contracted COVID-19 in 2021 and learned not to take life for granted. It was an eye opener, because I already struggled with other health issues such as Sickle Cell. At that time, I wasn’t sure if I was going to make it. I thank God I am alive and able to tell my story. I cherish all the quality time I have with my loved ones now more than ever.
