Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica & Paul Wright
Hi Jessica & Paul, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We first started our journey in March of 2019. I (Paul) have worked in the ice manufacturing industry for 24 years and always wanted to open my own shaved ice business. We found the perfect start up trailer and drove out to Mississippi to pick it up! We had so much to learn and it was pretty intimidating at first, but thankfully after 4 months of preparation, research, and lots of visits downtown we were officially official on July 5th, 2019!
We started off small and found a busy little corner in Marietta and started building our customer base. Before we knew it we were being booked for birthday parties, and neighborhood food truck Fridays! The first big event we booked was October of 2019 at the Callahan Fair, We were a hit, and I knew that we were on the right path.
Then came Covid-19. The big unknown. We made the necessary changes to accommodate the CDC recommendations and stayed open as much as we could. We had a ton of support from our customers and neighborhood friends. We made it through to the other side and didn’t have to throw in the towel. Phew!
The years that have followed have continued to be successful, we have an outpouring of support from our ‘OG’ customers, our new customers and everyone in between. We stand by our core values of ‘Quality Over Quantity’ and never provide less than Top Notch customer service! We have several business partners that have stood by us since the beginning. Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, General Truck, Dynamics Dance Studio and several local churches just to name a few!
We are a Woman and Veteran owned business. We support several local non-profit organizations and scholarship funds.
My wife Jessica is a US Air Force Veteran and is the other half of this operation. She has supported me since the beginning and continues to help us operate successfully.
We wouldn’t be here today without the support of our children, friends & family, and our very loyal customers!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road to get past our 5 year mark hasn’t come without a lot of tears, fears, mistakes, blood & sweat. We are and always will be at the mercy of our local and state government. The constantly changing rules and regulations, permitting challenges etc. However, we are forever evolving with the times and have a lot of faith in what we do. We plan to be around for a very long while!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We sell Authentic New Orleans Style Shaved Ice right off the block. Smooth like butter, not like those crunchy ‘snow cones’ you find at other places. We use a commercial grade block ice shaver to ensure we are putting out the best quality product. We make our own block ice in a state approved facility using a reverse osmosis system to create the most pure block ice we can get! Our flavors are made with pure cane sugar on site. All of our shaved ice is gluten and dairy free. We also offer sugar free and dye free flavors as well. Our customers are our top priority!
