Meet Vicki Blood of Lulu Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Vicki Blood.

Vicki Blood

Hi Vicki, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been in the hospitality industry since I was 15 years old. I have worked in many hospitality branches but have focused on restaurant management for most of them. After my wedding in 2016, I assisted with a few of my friends and close families’ weddings and started to love it. While on maternity leave with my daughter, I realized that work-life balance would be difficult while managing; that’s when I decided to pursue event planning. A few months before Covid, I started up Lulu Events, named after my daughter, and I’ve been growing ever since.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been relatively smooth so far?
It has been pretty smooth, considering I started at the beginning of Covid. The hardest part was realizing that I needed to grow a team. Finding a team I could trust to have the exact expectations of me and treat my couples the same way would be hard. But I’ve found a fantastic team, and we have grown significantly.

I appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lulu Events?
Lulu Events is an event planning business that covers all of North East Florida and South Georgia. We specialize in weddings for all couples, and we love to make our couples feel like family and feel as if we care as much as they do about their wedding. The most stressful part about wedding planning is not knowing the wrong and right thing to do. We ensure that our couples know there is no wrong or right way of doing something; it’s all about what they want. Our brand is about teamwork and doing everything possible to make our couples feel relaxed and enjoy their day. We don’t want your memories to be about setup, breakdown, or logistics; we want them to be about your family and friends.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Having a business coach is enormous! Trying to navigate a small business with no CEO experience is challenging. I found my business coach through Instagram and a few other vendors. She also has a wedding planning business in Florida and mentors a few planners in Jax. Networking is also a massive part of this industry; couples want to know you are known. I do a lot of my networking at weddings or through meet-ups. I’m big on first impressions and working with vendors who work as hard as I do.
