Hi Chelce, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I fell in love with makeup while in college at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin, earning my bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training. Over the years, I became more skilled in my makeup by watching YouTube tutorials and trying new techniques. I started to see early on that the beauty market had an inferior reputation for not having beauty and makeup products easily accessible to black women. When walking down the makeup aisle at the big brand name stores, it was difficult to find makeup that matched my skin complexion, let alone anyone darker than me. I felt that I needed to do something to change this perspective that black and brown skin tones should be an afterthought when creating beauty products. So, I created KayCyn Beauty, where beauty is made for all queens. Our mission is to reassure women of their beauty and represent Queens of all shades through our innovative beauty products.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
September 4th will be our fourth anniversary! I am so incredibly proud of my business, baby. I have a small team and am excited about where God will take us next. But let me tell you, running a business takes a lot of work. For the longest time, I wore a lot of hats. I am a social media manager, accountant, content creator, product development manager, etc. It was tough to balance life, work, and business. I’m still trying to learn how to balance it all to this day. But I advise all entrepreneurs to seek God for the answers and build a team. Nobody can be successful without God and a team.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from growing up.
As a kid, I spent my summer vacation at my Granny’s house in Texas. We would sit in my Granny’s truck at night and look up at the stars. There were barely any streetlights, so the sky was full of stars. It was so beautiful looking at the stars and hanging out with my Granny and cousins.
