Candy Coated Wig Restoration and Extensions started when I was in the womb; I’ve always loved creative colors, exotic colors, beauty in all forms, and creating and solving beauty issues. I’ve always known I didn’t want to be caged and would change the world one exotic color at a time! I stood on a mountain with my hair dye ready to swoop and create! Then my alarm went off, and I had to get up to prepare for work. Cringe! I wanted to own a business, create a legacy, and break generational curses! My family never owned a business; their mentality was to work, retire, and die. I knew there had to be more to life than that! I’ve always been a dreamer and visionary.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Becoming a business owner has been like drinking a delicious smoothie with large chunks of un-blended ice. My struggle has mainly been around funding, differentiation, and market saturation. The beauty industry is crowded with established brands and numerous startups, each vying for attention. I knew I would have to create a unique niche for my brand to stand out. Finding my target audience has been challenging because everyone has a different perspective on beauty. Additionally, managing inventory and supply chain issues took more workfficult than anticipated. Marketing efforts also had to be innovative and relentless, utilizing social media to build brand awareness and loyalty in a budget-friendly way. Each step has been a learning process, fraught with trial and error, but essential for growth.
