Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebekah Alenduff.
Hi Rebekah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My husband and I started Get Outdoors Fitness in 2018 after having our first son. We initially focused on developing the personal training side of the business. I am an ACE-certified personal trainer with a specialization in functional training. I am also a certified Cancer Exercise Specialist through CETI. In 2023, we expanded our business and founded Nalu Uliuli Outrigger Club – a competitive OC6 team. In 2024, we established the Duval Dragons Dragon Boat Club. We also host the annual Pottsburg Distance Classic – a half-marathon paddling race that attracts paddlers from up and down the East Coast.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of our struggles is learning how to scale the business. We have managed family life while expanding into the paddle sports industry. We have been very fortunate to have found skilled team members who’ve worked with us on developing our website and done a phenomenal job promoting our business on social media.
We’ve been impressed with Get Outdoors Fitness, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart?
Get Outdoors Fitness specializes in club management and paddlesports event production. My husband and I have been involved in the paddling community since 2013, giving us over a decade of experience in the industry. Get Outdoors Fitness is best known for the annual Pittsburg Distance Classic, a race we attempted in 2020 but postponed until 2023 due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Our inaugural race was in March 2023 and had just shy of 40 race entries. This year, we have over 60 entries from up and down the East Coast. This unique race highlights the beauty of Pottsburg Creek, the Arlington River, and the St. John’s River. We are most proud of the culture we foster in our outrigger club, Nalu Uliuli, and dragon boat club, Duval Dragons. Our athletes become family, and we welcome people from all walks of life into our clubs. We want the Jacksonville community to try paddling – we are fortunate to live along the St. John’s River and want to see the community utilize it more.
