Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Cudazzo.

Angela Cudazzo

Hi Angela, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and moved to the United States in 1999. During my childhood, I spent many summers in Rio, where I visited my grandmother and discovered my passion for painting. One of my earliest memories is sitting on my grandmother’s living room floor at 8, painting my first abstract painting with a palette knife and all primary colors. I have always been interested in various art forms and have tried a few different mediums, including photography, ceramics, and painting. 2015, I enrolled in Flagler College in Saint Augustine, Florida, to study business administration and marketing. While on the beautiful campus, I couldn’t resist taking some art classes, which reignited my passion for painting. After graduating in 2016, I returned to Daytona Beach and worked for the City of Daytona Beach. However, my heart was still yearning for the arts. In 2021, shortly after my daughter was born, I left my city job to work with my mother in her art gallery, Etrusca Gallery & Boutique, in downtown Daytona Beach. This move allowed me to start painting again and connect with local artists. In 2022, I started my women’s wearable art clothing line, Annabel, named after my daughter. I created the prints from my original artworks and turned them into beautiful wearable art. I have been the Director of Gallery Operations at The Hub on Canal in New Smyrna Beach since January of 2023. My responsibilities include managing a gallery that showcases the work of over 70 artists from the local and regional areas. I also have my artwork on display at both The Hub on Canal and Etrusca Gallery & Boutique.

Would it have been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have faced some challenges along the way, but who hasn’t? Being an immigrant from a young age has greatly influenced who I am today. It was not an easy experience moving to a new country, not knowing the language, and trying to fit in with new peers. For a long time, I struggled with accepting myself and tried to please everyone else. However, I have realized that controlling what others think of you is impossible. The only thing you can control is yourself. My goal is to become the best version of myself, and if you focus on that, everything will eventually fall into place.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am an abstract expressionist painter who creates colorful, all-over abstract paintings using various mixed media such as acrylic paint, oil pastels, pens, wax sticks, and resin. My vibrant and dynamic work employs various mark-making techniques to create layered and compelling compositions. The repetitive motion of mark-making in my paintings allows for a meditative experience for myself and the viewer. Color, movement, and texture breathe life into a painting. My intention in creating these paintings is to take the viewer on a journey where they can interpret, if they choose, or allow their eyes to move around the canvas and appreciate how the colors and composition make them feel. My art sparks curiosity and brings a sense of calm and joy to those who view it.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Work hard, believe in yourself., and don’t compare your journey with others.
