Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittani Adams and Malorie Rooney.
Hi Brittani and Malorie, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The story of Wild Ivy Salon is rooted in the serendipitous meeting of Brit and Mal, two creative souls who bonded instantly while working together at another local salon. Mal rocked as Brit’s go-to assistant there, sparking daily convos and igniting a fire of aspirations between them. Over countless daily chats filled with laughter, some tears, late nights, and throwing in some babies, they built a strong friendship and solidified their mutual desire to make their dream a reality. And voila! Wild Ivy Salon was brought to life in all its trendy and casual glory.
We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, business with friends is tough, like a second marriage if we’re being honest, but nothing we can’t navigate through. We are two different people, so sometimes our hard-headed, strong-willed personalities get in the way, but that’s what makes our business thrive. What one of us excels at is the weakness of the other, so that’s been a blessing.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might need to be more familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We’re huge on fostering genuine connections within the salon; once you’ve sat in our chair, you’re more than just a client. You’re a friend! Through casual conversations with clients, we guarantee an enjoyable experience. While we are both wildly creative souls, our hearts lead us into our niches within the salon. With 17 years in the business, Brit’s passion is creating natural lived in color and texturized haircuts. In Mals 7 Years Behind the Chair, she found her love for the art of color correction, where she tackles challenges head-on. We don’t just do your regular, partial highlight; each client leaves with a personalized service tailored to their needs!
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
It may sound cliche, but trust your gut and always follow your heart! You can do hard things. We opened a new business during a COVID shutdown on a tight budget, all while Brit was pregnant and our husbands working til midnight some nights. That alone shows how you can make it happen if you want it bad enough! It’s not always easy, but it’s always worth it!
