Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Applewhite.
Hi Morgan, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I began my enter burner journey in the Spring of 2017. My first business was an intimate and loungewear boutique, Some Sugar Some Spice. Shortly after my brand was born, my only son followed. Now juggling an online store and motherhood, I was inspired to start my mompreneur blog- Melanin Mom Boss. As both grew, so did my understanding of what it took to own and operate a successful business. In the spring of 2017, I began my entrepreneurial journey with an online retail store. Some Sugar Some Spice was my first baby. It was an intimate and loungewear brand. As life happened, I would soon give birth to my son, which led me to my second business. The challenge of balancing a business and being a mother was a journey that compelled me to share my mom’s boss blog- Melanin Mom Boss. Simultaneously running both businesses for five years, I decided to take some time off and focus on a different route. After taking that time, I decided to switch gears. After experiencing a bad break, I stumbled upon my passion, and with a vision from God, I later found out what my purpose was. This, in turn, birthed Botanical Moments. Using the skill set I’ve developed over the last 7 years, I successfully built an online floral boutique with over six figures in sales.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, it has been a lot of trial and error. I failed many of what I consider failures, but it was worth it. Between juggling motherhood, working a full-time job, and running a business, I struggled a lot with Time management. I provided each thing in my life with the balance needed. Botanical Moments has been the first business that I’ve run full-time northern commitments besides motherhood, and it’s been even more challenging but freeing at the same time. My latest obstacle is building a team, but I’m prayerful that when it aligns, it all makes sense.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Botanical Moments?
Botanical Moments is the first and only floral boutique in Jacksonville, FL. We specialize in giving the girls what they want and providing their partners with flowers to help them stand out. Our wrapped hundreds put us on the map and are still our #1 requested bouquet to date. We aim to create florals, unlike the typical flower arrangements you could get from your local grocery or other flower shops in the area. Our clients come to us when they want to make a statement to their partners, and most times, our clients give us free rein to add and push the boundaries. We’ve done 300 plus rose bouquets and even all tulip, sunflower, or baby’s breathe bouquets. Our goal is never to have the recipient say they’ve never had that one-of-a-kind moment through florals. Ensuring that our florals are as fresh as possible, our intent is for them to hold that memory, just not when they receive it but for a minimum of two weeks to be a reminder of something beautiful. After going through a bad breakup, I took time to get to know myself again. I rediscovered my obsession and love for florals. It became a part of my self-care, and once I felt good enough to date again, it became a requirement. The issue was the flowers I was receiving were just okay. I wanted something that reminded me of what I felt on that first date or kiss, and I was determined to recreate that through florals. This is how Botanical Moments was created. In a year, we’ve served over 500 customers and been a part of countless memorable moments such as weddings, proposals, events, anniversaries, birthdays, and those “just because” in the beginning moments of dating, and that is why we do it!
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love how supportive my city has been! My loyal clients and customers rep my brand harder than me, and I love them for it.
