Check Out KpopinJax ’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to KpopinJax.

KpopinJax

Hello KpopinJax; we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Neptune, the first of three current admins, started KpopinJax by contacting SKZinFlorida, an organization based in Orlando that hosts Stray Kids events in the state. Neptune felt we didn’t have enough K-pop events here in Jacksonville and decided to start their organization. In doing so, the admin of SKZFL introduced them to our second admin, Charlyn, to help run the organization and start planning events. At their second event, our third and newest admin Elena started as a new volunteer and quickly joined the ranks. We all bring different skills needed to this organization to run successful events. Now here we are 6 months later and almost a dozen events under our belt with many more to come, including hosting the first-ever K-pop artist in Jacksonville, Black On, in collaboration with his company K-Pop USA Co.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been a challenge. Because we volunteered to do this on our own, we all have full-time jobs. Between juggling our work schedules, planning our events, coming up with new ideas, and raising enough money to fund everything, we do our best to make sure that everyone who comes to our events feels comfortable and safe to be the K-pop stans they are. We are incredibly grateful to local venues, vendors, and everyone who comes to our events; they make all this possible for us.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We host K-pop-related events all over Jacksonville. We are proud of our teamwork and rapid growth over the past 6 months. We never would’ve guessed that people would love our events so much and continue returning repeatedly. We are receiving so much support in this community, from anyone between the ages of 10-50+ to parents who are happy they and their kids can enjoy this together, and we believe that is what sets us apart from others.

Please talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy.
When we look around at the people at our events, seeing the joy on their faces, we can make new friends or bring their families to bond over K-pop or even introduce people who have never experienced it before. The exposure of K-pop to Jacksonville is invaluable, making all of our work worth it a million times over.
