Hi Courtney, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My color journey began in August of 2022. After having four kids in three years, I finally emerged from survival mode. I now had some extra time to devote to getting dressed each morning and applying some lipstick before rushing out the door for the day’s activities in an attempt to feel a little more put together. This was a baby step for my self-confidence, but I still felt my closet didn’t reflect the true me. It was filled with a mix of all-black (my go-to color), pre-baby pieces, and new trends I couldn’t quite figure out how to style properly. Every time I went shopping, I felt so overwhelmed I usually left empty-handed, feeling defeated about desperately wanting to feel more like me but not knowing how to have my outward appearance match who I was. Enter House of Colour. Having my colors analyzed was like having scales removed from my eyes. I sat in the chair and watched my face come to life with each new drape in my season. My complexion smoothed, my eyes + teeth became whiter, my jawline sharpened, and it looked like I lost 5 pounds without lifting a single weight. Talk about a win, right?!
I was sold and immediately embraced the gorgeous palette I was given. After my appointment, I fully committed to my colors and moved everything that wasn’t in my season to a different closet holding on to them just in case. What happened next was magical. I started to experience a newfound confidence. I no longer dreaded getting dressed in the morning. Gym clothes were only worn to the gym instead of throughout my day. Other people began to notice how well my colors looked on me, and compliments continued to come my way. I became more productive, joyful and felt better about myself and my day. My life is still pure chaos with so many littles running around, but I finally found what gave me permission and the know-how to feel like me again. I knew fairly quickly that this transformation was one that every person deserved to experience, and thus House of Colour Ponte Vedra was born!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Buying a franchise and starting a new business with four kids between the ages of 3 and 6 took a lot of work. Our life is pretty jammed-packed, but I couldn’t ignore this God-given tug at my heart to pursue this dream. We’re still finding our flow in this new season, but the support of my husband and children has meant the world to me. Another struggle I have found myself wrestling with is allowing myself to take up space. Whether that is space in my family’s calendar, a room full of women I know need to hear about this service or space to be seen + noticed by others because I am wearing my bold, bright winter colors. It’s very new to me and something I am still working through. But being willing to cast off the “too much” persona I’ve carried for so long and step into “I am enough as I am, and it’s okay for me to take up as much space as I naturally do” has been so freeing and so healing to my soul.
