Today we’d like to introduce you to Martine Lamartiniere.
Hi Martine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Making jewelry and working with gems has sparked my interest since childhood, so with the support of my family and friends, I dared to explore that option and go into business for myself. To fully live the dream, I prioritized joy and creativity, leaving my 25-year career as a public educator. I sold the house, bought a boat, and now I live aboard with my love and our sweet dog.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
This road has been smooth, but I have encountered many obstacles. Creating inventory and building a website has been the most enjoyable part of this endeavor. My current challenges are learning the ins and outs of search engine optimization and the role of social media in finding my ideal virtual audience. Fortunately, I love change and problem-solving, so while I’m challenged, I’m not discouraged!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
From my floating studio on the San Sebastian River, I make one-of-a-kind handmade jewelry inspired by my travels and nature. My pieces typically include shells, pearls, gemstones, and eye-catching clasps. I’ve studied the physical and metaphysical properties, lore, legends, and myths of crystals and stones for over 40 years now. I’ve always been attracted to stones; my first Mother’s Day gift to my mom was a handful of clear quartz crystals I spent hours selecting from our gravel driveway in North Carolina. When I lived in DC, I often visited the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History to hug their enormous amethyst and stand near their wall of clear quartz. I feel a magnetic attraction to the positive vibrations that some claim to be healing in crystals. When creating jewelry, I feature stones that inspire confidence, communication, courage, transformation, growth, and protection. There is immense intention and love that goes into each piece.
Have you learned any exciting or essential lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
During the pandemic, I learned that a *shocking* amount of people were not satisfied with significant aspects of their lives, such as their homes, jobs, and personal relationships.
