Hidden Gems: Meet Lilly Hampton of Lilly Hampton Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lilly Hampton.

Hi Lilly, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Since my early teens, I’ve always loved the idea that you can hold on to your memories in your mind and in your hands. Whenever spending time with my friends or family, I had a disposable camera and took photos of everything. The waiting game to pick up my printed photos was when I learned patience and excitement simultaneously. On my fifteenth birthday, my family surprised me with my first official digital camera, and this is where my story began. As the years went by, I continued photographing friends and family and eventually got a few paid jobs. Then, I got very busy with my other passion, dance. I’ve been a dancer my whole life and soon became a professional dancer in FL. I traveled around the country to perform and compete with my dance team and sometimes solo. At this time, my photography life came to hold. After finishing my Bachelor’s degree at UCF and graduating at 6 months pregnant (yes, I wore heels across that stage), my husband and I moved back to my hometown, Vero Beach, where we started our beautiful family. This was when I decided to reopen my photography business and continue to appreciate the still moments I could create for others with my camera. I was back in my foundation of creativity, and God and my family have been in my heart and mind. I am truly grateful for this life and the beautiful people I photographed through my business. Without them, I couldn’t share my art with you and the world.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say smooth road. A little bumpy. I was in a position at one point where both my passions were in my face, and I had to decide which would benefit me more at the time. I then put photography on hold for a bit while I explored my other passion, dance. I don’t regret any decisions that paused my photography because I ended up traveling with my other passion and had nothing but growth come from it. I learned a lot during many challenges, but how else would I grow right?

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lilly Hampton Photography?
I am a lifestyle photographer and own photography business. I specialize in portraits, couples, and families. I shoot during the “Golden Hour,” the best lighting, about 1-2 hours before sunset. I’m always shooting on the beach since I live on the east coast in Vero Beach. Sometimes I dapple with different locations in downtown Vero Beach to get some of that city’s urban feel. I’m always here, and I love to travel! I love shooting artists specializing in their art, whether it be dancers, painters, musicians, or more.

We’d love to hear what you think about risk-taking.
Even though the unknown is scary, I always rely on my faith in God, knowing that I will be heading in the right direction for myself. I always listen to my intuition, and this feeling aligns with whether the risk is worth taking. If the risk is worth having a better life, always take it as long as it won’t harm you or your family. Sometimes you have to sit back and pause and reflect on a decision you are about to make. That decision could change your entire future. If it’s not meant to be, it’s not meant to be, and you move on to the next door that opens.
