Exploring Life & Business with Kayla Nabers of Doula Dyad

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Nabers.

Thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, how did you get started?
We gave birth to our beloved son, Maddox, approximately nine months ago. I (Kayla) knew how important postpartum time was, so we prepared for it as much as we prepared for pregnancy and birth, and it is one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Our postpartum time was so peaceful, restful, and healing. We wanted to share our experience with others and help other new families achieve this outcome during their own postpartum time. So we created Doula Dyad – our postpartum care and meal delivery service – to provide our community with the proper nurturing and nourishment during the Sacred Window (first 42 days post birth) and beyond (because families need and deserve support forever, not just for the first six weeks after birth). We want people to know that postpartum doesn’t have to be challenging, draining, or isolating. We want every family to feel nourished, nurtured, supported, and resourced, and we want every family to have a reliable village. Every family deserves a doula (and postpartum meals), which we aim to provide!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been a (mostly) smooth but slow road. We strongly believe in our mission and feel we provide a service that our community needs and could benefit from, so we operated under the assumption that there would be a lot of interest immediately. Still, it has proven harder than we expected to build a social media following and get our name out in the community.

We’ve been impressed with Doula Dyad, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are partners, Kayla and Xavier, who are passionate about postpartum. We offer postpartum care and meal delivery to Jacksonville, FL, and the surrounding areas. I (Kayla) am a postpartum doula. I “mother the mother” during the postpartum period so she can best mother her baby/babies. Xavier is our primary chef. Together we aim to provide comprehensive care for the whole family during postpartum. Our primary focus is to nurture and nourish families during the most sacred and delicate transition of their lives. Our meals and warming beverages are specially curated and crafted with (mostly) locally sourced, organic ingredients and are intended to expedite the healing of the postpartum body. While we are not the only postpartum care business in town, we are one of the few meal delivery services catering to postpartum clientele. Everything we do, whether cooking, blending teas, tidying a client’s home, doing mama wellness visits, or postpartum planning sessions, we do it all with so much love and care because we truly believe that everyone deserves support during their pregnancy and postpartum journey. When mama thrives, families thrive, and when families thrive, our communities thrive, and it feels aligned to serve our community in this way. We want readers to know that postpartum health, healing, and happiness are accessible, and support is available. Our offerings and packages are customized and tailored to each family’s needs, desires, and budget. We offer sliding scale options, payment plans, gift certificates (great baby shower gifts!), and discounts to make our services affordable and accessible for all families.

What makes you happy?
Connection makes me happy. Whether that is connecting as a family with quality time doing things we love (going to see live music, camping, hiking, etc.) or whether that’s connecting with clients and being witness to them experiencing one of the biggest and most magical events of their life (welcoming a new life) or whether that’s connecting with the community by supporting local artists, businesses, farmers by attending local events/markets and buying local products/art. Connection is so beautiful and intrinsic to community success.
