Today we’d like to introduce you to Jada Baker.
Hi Jada, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
My journey is no different from many others. I grew up with both parents and came from a decent home. As a teenager, I had my rebellious stage, and I walked myself into some bad situations. I witnessed a young man shot in the face in front of me, which scarred me mentally, and I also was taken advantage of at the tender age of 16. I was exposed to many things before I was 18 years old that were vital to my mental health, which ultimately led me to operating the way I did. The good part is I graduated high school in 3 years and went on to college where I initially studied Bio/Nursing. Unfortunately, that did not go as planned because I changed my major my sophomore year and studied psychology. I began learning how the brain works and how it connected so many dots and answered several questions I had in my life. During the early part of my college years, I was in a mentally abusive and toxic relationship which took a major toll on my physical and mental health. I was always skinny, but I was underweighted then, and mentally I battled a lot during that time while also trying to finish my college courses.
Thankfully I could leave that relationship without too much of an issue, and I began returning to who I was. I found a new love for fitness because it allowed me to focus mentally on something other than what I was recovering from, and it began shaping my body in ways I had not known it could. I began to develop a new level of self-confidence and was happier than I had been in the years prior. If not for that relationship, I would not have found fitness or grown to love psychology as much as I do now. They say everything happens for a reason, and even though I couldn’t fully understand it then, I am grateful for my experience because it has grown into what you see today. I graduated with my BS in Psychology with honors and became a Certified Mental Health Professional two years later. I also received my Certification as a Life Coach and a Fitness Coach. I enjoy helping women recover from previous traumas and helping them build their self-esteem and confidence in many ways, hence where Healosopher originated from. Healosopher is a portmanteau, which is 2 words combined to make one. Heal, and Philosopher put together. Heal stems from healing the parts that one does not want to speak on, and Philosopher is a person who seeks wisdom and enlightenment. So ultimately, learning the tools needed to build that strength and confidence to heal from past or current experiences.
Here at Healosopher we work both inward-out and outward-in. We target the parts of the mind that keeps you stagnant and stifled. Then we work on the appearance and parts that you can change about your body to have the confidence and build the self-esteem needed. I use all techniques and skills to challenge and push one to their fullest potential. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you so do not get discouraged.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Unfortunately, it has not been a smooth road. I was recently in a major car accident that led me to physical therapy, and I had to temporarily cancel classes until further notice. Depression has tried to creep in because the number one way I would cope was working out, which I could not revert to because of the accident. I struggled with mental abuse and weight loss massively before taking fitness seriously. Still, once I began seeing the benefits of it, it allowed my mind to be free of worry and stress, and it also helped to increase my appetite because I struggle with eating when I am stressed. Once I started seeing the fruits of my labor, I was fully committed and locked in. Also, by the grace of God and His protection, he kept me through all of it.
Another area I could improve on was mostly being self-taught regarding all business ventures and networking. I learned about business credit, LLCs, trademarks, leveraging credit, and much more without a mentor, which was much more challenging than I anticipated. Nevertheless, I made it through. Thankfully, I have a mentor now and they have helped encourage, motivate, and push me to my fullest potential. With love for constructive criticism, I was able to reach new heights within my business.
My advice from my first year is to learn how to enjoy your business. Don’t compare your first year to someone else’s first year. Don’t compare your journey to anyone else’s. Comparison is the thief of joy. So enjoy your business and celebrate it for where you are now! Your journey is always going to be different. Keep learning new things and implementing them. When you start to feel discouraged, give yourself grace and time to readjust and get back on track. Remember, you are only in competition with yourself. No matter how long it takes for your business to grow, it’ll be a journey worth growing through. You got this!
As you know, we’re big fans of Healosopher LLC. What can you tell our readers who might need to be more familiar with the brand?
Healosopher was created to encourage women of all statures, business professionals, stay-at-home moms, women who struggle with confidence, women who would like better insight on how to better themselves, and those who wish to reach their fullest potential by building confidence and strength from their mind to the body. As an extension of the brand, there’s a fitness class every Saturday at 10am called Get Me Bodied with resistance bands only, which caters to individuals who need to make time for themselves and want to have their physical match they’re mental. I am most known for my fitness journey, but I also wear many other hats. As part of my Healosopher mind and body brand, I am also a Life Coach and Certified Mental Health Professional. What sets me apart from others is that even though I am known for the fitness aspect, I also cater to one’s mentality and mindset. I help those through mental health deal with the past and the present, while life coaching deals with the present and the future. I am most proud of how far I’ve come in such a short time, and I am one of the youngest fitness/life coaches, and mental health professionals there is. I am also most proud of my brand in general because it helps women in the community build connections and confidence and encourages them to understand that it is more than just physical; it is also mental. I want readers to know what my brand stands for and that I offer life coaching services, personal training services, and the classes I host on Saturdays @ 10 am. All pricing for services and products is located on our website thehealosopher.com.
Our mission statement: Never let your fears decide your fate, and never let your past define your future.
Networking and finding a mentor can positively impact one’s life and career. Any advice?
The advice I would give when it comes to finding a mentor or networking, in general, would be to stay true to yourself and do your research. Do not just go for the biggest influencer in the city or one that is well known; connect to those who are extremely knowledgeable about how they can advance you to the next step in your business journey. Be open and receptive to criticism and learn your business inside and out so those who encounter you will understand that you are just as knowledgeable about your business as they are. My strategy and how well I communicate with those around me have worked well for me.
