Today we’d like to introduce you to John Vega.
Hi John, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, let’s briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been in construction my whole life, so I decided to get my Bachelors of Science in Building Construction from UNF-Jacksonville. I then worked for a huge healthcare contractor but disliked my position as an estimator, I eventually got fired and I started my own general contracting firm with my severance. While building my brand, I added a roofing license to provide roofing services to my arsenal. We have doubled in revenue each year since February 19′. Not bad for a kid who came up through the foster care system and aged out. The sky’s the limit and I believe that people with tougher backgrounds have more potential that those born with everything given to them.
You wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been smooth?
It will never be a smooth road. I’ve had months where I didn’t know where my money would come from next because even as a commercial general contractor when there was no work from that, I had to try and enter the home remodeling market, which even though I can do it, I don’t favor it. The battle was seeing which market would keep me afloat, so sometimes you must go where the money is until you catch your break to do what you want. In my case, it was commercial tenant buildouts.
