Daily Inspiration: Meet Tara Gamero

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Gamero.

Hi Tara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My love for travel began as a little girl when my parents would take us on a road trip each year for summer break. We would always go out of state, whether on a road trip, camping, or flying to France to visit with family in the countryside of Lyon. As a teenager, I wanted to be a flight attendant to travel the world. I married the love of my life and decided to raise my children with that same tradition. But I craved more, so I would plan a family trip whenever my children had any days off. It didn’t matter where it would be or for how long, as long as it was someplace new. Some places we have never been to. Eventually, I planned all the extended family trips and found so much joy. My friends would tell me of their travels, and I would hang onto every detail as if I were reading a good book! After many years of working in different fields, I was looking for a new job, and something inside said to look for a travel agent position. Now, I cannot wait to start my day every single morning, planning dreams for others!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I have finally found the place in my life where I was meant to be. The road here was not straight, as I have had many pitfalls and losses. I have worked in many fields, from medical to aerospace, restaurant, and pet grooming. I enjoyed everything, and I strived to be a hard worker. But none of these roles seemed to fill my heart. When my family and I moved, I knew I needed to find a new role. I began to job hunt. Thankfully I was fortunate to be offered different positions, but my heart was not in it. Something told me that I needed to keep searching and that these other opportunities were not where I was supposed to be. So, I sought out a position in the travel industry. Becoming a travel agent has triggered a deep level of fulfillment inside my soul, and I have so much joy in helping others escape! I was meant for this role. My passion for travel and exploring the world has helped me find who I truly am. Seeing the world through my children’s eyes and feeling their excitement and wonder is priceless. Looking back at photos of all the amazing places and things they have encountered, I know I am completely blessed. I tell my husband that it doesn’t matter if we live in a little shack on the side of the road. As long as we are happy and “live,” that is all that matters.

Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your work.
I am so proud to now be a travel agent for an agency that has been in business for 70 years! I love helping people plan their next adventures, regardless of the trip’s size. All aspects of travel, from hotels. Flights, river cruises, all-inclusive, business trips, church events, camping, theme parks, wedding, honeymoons, etc. My family and I are huge Disney fans, and I’m also a certified Disney Travel Agent. It is so much fun to help people plan their dream vacations together and push the reset button on their mental well-being. Traveling (no matter how short of time it is) takes us out of our comfort zone and helps us gain new perspectives and learn about other cultures while inspiring us to try new things. No matter the budget, there is always a way to embrace a new adventure.

What do you think about luck?
Life has given me many lemons; without them, I would not be able to make the best lemonade recipe and then share it. Luck or no luck, each path, good and bad, has taken me down the road where I need to be,
