Daily Inspiration: Meet Chaunyce Jolly

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chaunyce Jolly.

Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I have always had a love for the beauty industry. When I was a little girl, my mom would allow me to play in her hair. She would bring out rollers, combs, brushes, scrunchies, and anything we had in the house for styling we pulled out. I even gave all my Barbie dolls new hairstyles on a regular. I genuinely feel I was born to be a hairstylist. Growing up, I tried different career paths. I attended school for medical assistance, but life happened, and I eventually stopped going. Even while I attended school, I was styling my classmate’s hair. I became a mom not long after that and felt like there was no time to go to school for what I truly wanted to do. I needed to work. My first attempt at cosmetology school was in 2016. I attended Paul Mitchell. Due to family issues, I needed to stop going. At this point, I began to get discouraged. I started to feel that maybe going to school for cosmetology was not for me. Fast forward to 2020, at the height of the pandemic. I was placed on leave at my job after being there for 2 years. God had presented an opportunity, and it was finally my time to go back and finish. I finally completed my journey and graduated from Paul Mitchell the School Jacksonville on February 12, 2021.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There have been many bumps along my journey; it hasn’t always been smooth; I had to deal with family and some health issues.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a licensed cosmetologist. I specialize in hair color, keratin treatments, natural hair care, tape in extensions, makeup, and many more. I am most known for my ability to color natural hair and silk presses safely. I am always learning and adding new services.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you, and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
I learned to cherish life and those that are a part of it. So many people have lost family and friends due to Covid-19. Life is too short.
