Today we’d like to introduce you to Big Val.
Alright, thank you for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us how you got started?
I have always been into music. I loved the art and how people can express themselves through music, but I never saw myself breaking out and doing it. I started with poetry, just writing down my thoughts using different rhyme schemes, then I just took a leap of faith and went for it. I always put God first in anything I do and remember where I come from. My brother passed away recently, in November 2021, and that took me into a hole but also motivated me to go harder. I go to FSU still getting my degree while pushing out music and hope to soon be an all-around versatile artist in the music industry, across all genres.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Deaths and incarcerations within my family have been the hardest obstacles along the way. I lost 2 of my cousins back to back, one in December 2020 and one in March 2021. I also lost my auntie in December 2020; then, I lost my brother in November 2021, one of the hardest things I have to wrap my head around and still feels unreal to me. Having to keep going without him hurts, but I know he wanted me to go hard in my music, and I have to make him proud!

I’m a female artist. You can find me on Instagram at @bigvalofficial and on all platforms under BIG VAL. I have a mixtape called “Bossed Up,” and it is on all platforms: my first mixtape and more. I’m known for being versatile and creating my lane. I’ve always been different from others, from my demeanor to how I dress, how I walk, and how I talk. I love to say Don’t put me in a box because I won’t fit. I’m bigger than that, and now it’s about time I show the world!
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe in luck; I believe in blessings. I do right by others and make sure everyone around me is good. I pray and grind, and the blessings come!
