Today we’d like to introduce you to Natasha Brooks.
Hi Natasha, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Let me see where to start. I’m trying to figure out how to tell the readers that I was molested as a child briefly, became a teen mother, lived in foster care, survived domestic violence, and overcame poverty! You see, my life was everything but a happily ever after in the beginning. I became a teen mother at fifteen years old. This made my life journey harder, but I didn’t give up. To show you that I’m not a quitter, I had another child at sixteen and a third at seventeen. By the time I was nineteen, I’d already had four of my six children. Fast forward (years later), I moved to Florida from South Carolina. I received a job that was making decent money but didn’t quite pay the bills. Supporting a household of nine on an income of fewer than thirty-five thousand dollars a year was a struggle. My bank accounts were always negative, and I kept a payday loan account open constantly. I always used the term “robbing Peter to pay Paul” to keep my family afloat.
Moving on down memory lane a few more years later, I had a conversation with my Spiritual Mother, E.S. I expressed how I was tired of living from paycheck to paycheck. I wanted more out of life, and my goal was to leave my children an inheritance. She looked at me and said, you’re great at credit rehab; you should start a company. I said OK, but in my mind, I thought that was a huge responsibility. The same night while in service, God gave me the name of my company. I knew this was confirmation to start the business. I didn’t waste any time forming the business. The first day I launched my business, I received my first client within the same week and gained a few more. In my first week in business, I made $1,200. For some, that may not be much, but for me, I wasn’t making that every two weeks. This was the beginning of my eradicating poverty from my life. And the start of a prosperous foundation for my children.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say the road was anything but smooth! During the process of my road to success, I was a single parent of six children and a grandmother of two. I also worked a full-time job in property management, part-time for my cleaning company, and part-time as a Licensed Realtor! Smooth is the last word I would use to describe my journey.
