Today we’d like to introduce you to Trisha Padilla.
Hi Trisha, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstories with our readers.
Since a child, I was always into the arts, whether it was drawing, singing, or dancing. I was academic in school and simultaneously participated in any activity that allowed me to express my artistry. I joined the guitar club, sang in a few school shows, and showcased my art projects throughout campus. As a Filipina American having a career in the medical field was considered successful. My family tried to engrain that arts was just a hobby and not a sustainable career path. Shortly after graduating high school, I attended college to get into the nursing program while working a part-time sales job. Somewhat of an epiphany occurred within me, and I realized that these choices did not align with my desires. I was always intrigued with tattoos, even giving out fake sharpie tattoos to my classmates. I visited a few local shops in Jacksonville to inquire about how I could start my career as a tattoo artist. I was turned down by many until I finally came to my first shop family, whom I still love to this day, Born Artful. My first mentors, Shano and Josh, taught me so much. I then quit and dropped out of college to pursue full-time tattooing. Along this journey, I have been able to travel with my career and also meet. Be mentored and work alongside some of the most renowned artists in the field, such as Tuki Carter and Miya Bailey. I started this journey as a teen, and 7 years later, I bear the fruits of literal blood, sweat, and tears! I now have my studio and looking to expand shortly. Gratitude fills my heart knowing I pursued my passions and dreams of becoming a full-time artist. I have enjoyed the process of learning and becoming an artistic businesswoman. I am so grateful for my family, especially my clients, who have supported me on my journey.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
This journey has been everything but a smooth road, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. Rough roads gave me guts and grit, which made glory worth it. There were obstacles in this industry, such as misogyny, racism, times when it was financially unstable, and times when my family didn’t agree with my career choice.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love to try different styles regarding my artistry in tattooing, which, for me, provides limitless creativeness. However, the styles and subjects I enjoy doing the most art portraits, flowers and animals, and giving them a surrealist twist.
So, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you before we go? How can they support you?
For prospective clients, the best way to reach me is via my business phone, which is attached to all my social media. I am looking to collaborate and create content with fellow tattoo artists and for various brands such as skin care, tattoo supplies, tattoo ink, and clothing wear. Anyone can show support by sharing my social media!
