Life & Work with Queen Amina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Queen Amina .

Hi Queen Amina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always been drawn to the arts in all forms. It came down to me always trying to present a more artistic way of whatever I dabbled in at the time. For instance, from being in cosmetology school to designing clothes, I always looked for ways to incorporate a vision that had never been seen before. I just never experienced the satisfaction with the work as I do with creating physical artwork. I would always stress the importance of “finding my niche,” wanting to bring attention to a craft that isn’t widely known, something that would be fresh to anyone who may see it. Discovering Neurographic Art seemingly opened up an entirely new world for me. I absolutely love how it is nearly impossible to recreate the same piece; the possibilities are endless, and it always excites me because I never truly know where the painting will take me.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been fairly smooth?
I would be lying if I were to say this journey has been completely smooth. It already seems like I’ve been on this journey for years when in reality, it’s only been a few months. Me gaining such a broad audience in such a short amount of time has been overwhelming in itself. From branding myself as an artist to transitioning into a business owner, I also worked on my horrible procrastination habit, given that it is my middle name. I tend to get inside my head a lot, for we are our worst critics, it has taken time, and it will continue to take time for me to get into the grooves of things comfortably.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in Neurographic Art, connecting one’s subconscious mind withdrawing. Seemingly the definition of abstract art, however, what has drawn me to the craft of Neurographics, is the freeform of it all, the way that it allows you to look past the rational thinking or planning that one may set beforehand. I am most proud of how others feel when they see my work, the shapes/objects they may see, and the way certain color combinations are used. I tend to play tricks on the mind, or even how it may bring back memories of when they’ve drawn similar things as a child without even knowing it was called “Neurographic Art.” Making those connections is what keeps me going above all else. It amazes me how each of us interprets things differently, how we can receive various messages from the same thing, and I love how I can connect with my audience on such a deeper level.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I firmly believe that risk-taking is essential to finding yourself or can even be a guide to finding out who you want to be or how you want to represent yourself to the world. As I’ve mentioned, I tend to be so much in my head. I mean, aren’t we all? For a long time, I would let those doubts and worries win. I figured for a long time that I needed to represent myself as how I thought others viewed me, when in reality, how can I expect someone else to truly see me for who I am when I don’t recognize what I see in the mirror? Taking that risk, establishing my own identity, and introducing myself to others for who I’m thrilled with being has brought me the confidence I could only dream of in the past. I know it can be easier said than done. One may ask themself, “where do I begin?” you begin where you are most comfortable, then take it up each step. I always ask myself, “what haven’t I done?” or “what hasn’t been seen before?” those two questions alone bring so many ideas and inspiration. Risk-taking is a mindset in a way. You have to be ready to be uncomfortable with yourself to truly find comfort with who you are, who you are becoming, and who you will be in the end.
