Today we’d like to introduce you to MaResa Allen.
Hi MaResa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
How it all started Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be my boss. I was just a young girl doing hair that had a big dream. I was always in love with the hair world. When I was in high school, I started doing hair seriously. I always told myself once I make my first $50,000; I will start my own hair company. I reached my first $50,000 and stopped doing hair in June of 2021. I had a vision board and knew I wanted more than to do hair. I invested my first $50,000 in wigs; with me investing $50,000 to start my business, I had only $5,000 left in my name with no bills paid, so I just went for it. I just jumped out on a leap of faith; nobody knew the vision but me. I named my hair company 2x’s Collection. The name 2x’s came from a nickname classmates used to call me in school, so I just stuck with it. I took months preparing before the big launch. I promoted my business for 3 months, promoting it every day. There were days when I had a set date, and I kept pushing the date back because I had cold feet. After months of pushing the date back, I was finally set on a date, October 15, 2021. Everything’s not perfect, but things are going as planned. The first day I launched was amazing. I never thought I could make over $10,000 in sales. I have so much more support to this day. It’s still unbelievable. While the brand was getting molded, I established my team, including my friends Denee, Allyssa, Zaria, and my photographer Lena. We are doing photoshoots every month with different themes. We did a Halloween shoot, Christmas shoot, Valentine’s Day shoot, etc. I ended up making a Christmas & Valentine’s Day sale; each time I would have a sale, I would make over $15,000-$20,000. As the sales increased, everyone was beginning to figure out who I was and! WHAT THE BRAND IS ABOUT.
Let’s talk about the brand. Let’s talk about who is 2x’s Collection. It’s the land of perfect wigs; you get nothing but the best wigs, wig essentials, bundles, and much more. I feel like nothing out there is better than being a 2x’s Babe. I and only I created this brand. Yes, I have the support from my close ones, but everything that 2x’s Collection comes with is all me; the hard times, late and sleepless nights, every dime, every piece of hard work, and dedication came from trusting God and me trusting the vision. My trust in God and my hard work made 2x’s Collection a 6 figure business within 6 months. Everything I have is because of God & I give all thanks to him.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Has it been a smooth road? No, it hasn’t, but every obstacle I faced is worth it because it made me who I am today. Running 2x’s Collection came with depression and stress and increased my anxiety. There were times that there was late inventory, times my vendors didn’t fall through, and things weren’t going as planned. We offered same-day delivery, and the delivery driver’s car ended up breaking down, and I had to find someone else to deliver packages for me while I wasn’t in town. My hair company was going so well that I ended up getting a storefront in July 2021, it’s still in the making, but that’s a battle I’m still facing. While on the journey of becoming a store owner, many obstacles stood in my way. I had to get a new contractor, there were issues with my store plans, many wrongs turns, and now I’m facing an obstacle that I’m going to beat, finishing my store. I feel like there’s a light in every tunnel, and God gives his battles to his toughest soldiers.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I sell bundles, wigs, wig essentials, and clothing. The brand 2x’s Collection is known for selling wigs and much more.. 2x’s Collection is known for being creative and always putting my customers first. What sets me apart from being different from others is that I am authentic. I’m creative. I’m not predictable; you never know what I’m up to and what’s next. I’m consistent, and I make my customers feel like they matter. I don’t sell hair to do it. I sold hair and created this business because I love what I do. I love seeing my customers smile; I love the loyalty my customers give. I love the great feedback my customers give me; instead, whether it’s good or bad. I love how I connect with my customers and make them feel I’m doing right when they voice their opinions. If it weren’t for my customers, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Growing up as a child, I never had much; I did so little to create memories. Still, the little memories I created matter the most are when my cousins, people, and I stayed outside until the street lights came on. We just played and played with no care in the world. Also, a memory I could never forget is when my grandad used to grab my hands while I was little and pray with me. Those little moments were priceless. I’d do anything to get him back and cherish those few moments all over again moments I wish I could live forever, but I can’t. I forever carry him with me. Forever keep those memories with me.
