Hi Michelle, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Greetings. I’m the proud owner of Fairytale Landscapes LLC. My journey was somewhat different from other business owners. My passion began with hair and makeup. Years later fashion. Crossed over to medical while working in medical I opened a boutique here in Jacksonville. That didn’t work out. My husband who’s been in the lawn business for 32 years always tried to get me to come out and assist in the yard. Always rejecting him one day I said yes. Little did I realize how therapeutic it would be mentally. Became my everyday go to for peace. My husband taught me a lot but nevertheless I ventured out on my own to learn more about the growth of sod, flowers also plants and trees. I became addicted “lol” Our lawn became a hot topic in our community. People would stop and take pictures and ask about all the different flowers planted on the property. I knew then what calling God had on my life. Everyone was so impressed that they started asking if I could help them with their lawns. Never did I imagine a cute city girl would turn country and love to play in dirt. In the spring of 2016 Fairytale Landscapes was created. My business is by word of mouth little marketing. 500 + residential and commercial strong I’m now a household conversation. Your lawn is your silent greeter. 🧚🏽💚
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The con to my business is finding people that are willing to work in all weather conditions.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in bringing my clients’ lawns together with unique designs.
I’m known as the tropical queen. However, I do more than tropical landscape designs.
I’m most proud of my work simply because of the signature flowers I’m able to incorporate into all my projects.
Being the only African American female in my city that owns a lawn and landscape business.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Yes, covid actually grew my business. However, I was willing to work with my clients.
I made tremendous sacrifices to bring happiness to my clients throughout the last few years just to see them have a smile while being at home.
