Hi Amanda, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Since I can remember I have always been interested in running the show, calling the shots, and marching to the beat of my own drum. Being an entrepreneur to me means I am able to try, fail, and try again in all the areas that spark my interest. I equally enjoy being out designing play spaces for events, being the hands-on labor, managing admin computer tasks, and designing digital ads and marketing. I enjoy it all! Being a stay at home mom I wanted the opportunity to get out and meet clients in person but also be able to work from home while my kids napped. I had to do something that fits into a mother of two lifestyle. JaxTotsPlay came to me when I was throwing my two-year-old’s birthday party but I realized I wasn’t able to enjoy the party as much as I had wanted. I also really love a beautiful, simple aesthetic look and parties with trendy themes. Hosting a lux event with small children requires lots of behind the scene things, mostly keeping the little one from feeling overstimulated, equally entertained and of course, fed. I worked on a business plan for many months while my husband was away on deployment. When he came back it was go time! I’ve been in business for almost a year and to date, I am super pleased and feel beyond blessed with JaxTotsPlay’s success. It’s hard work, but I enjoy it very much.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
At first, it was a tad rocky, I wasn’t 100% sure of my process, my workflow, and the packages I offered. Luckily marketing on social media really helps test the audience. Lots of engagement means it’ll probably be a hit but not so much means I may need to rethink my equipment or design. The contract I send to clients has changed a few times, our rules have changed a few times and my admin program but almost one year from our opening week, I’m feeling confident I have worked out all those new business kinks!!

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
If backing up an enclosed tailor into someone’s driveway was a quality I’d say that one.. haha! But, all jokes aside, being creative has got me really far, in all aspects.
